What's you opinion on the Gen 4 and comparison to the grip radius between M&P full size .45 with small backstrap vs Gen 4 with no backstrap.

I can't speak to the M&P but I do have a gen 4 21 which I'm quite happy with.  I have average size hands and with no backstrap the 21 feels great. I've heard people say the M&P is easier to carry so depending on what you intend to do with it that might be a factor.

I never intended to carry my 21 so it doesn't matter to me. It is a BIG gun though.

I have both.  It's a toss-up really, as far as feel / fit in hand when you run the small backstrap on the M&P and no backstrap on the Glock.

Thanks for the comments.

Im not looking to carry but to get one as a range toy and a HD/nightstand firearm. I've had the M&P and it was a pretty good fit for me but the Gen 3 I tried was way to large for comfort, for me, but I never really have it a legit chance.... good to know.

I have large hands so I can't give personal experience. Most people ive talked to though say the gen 3 21 sf feels quite a bit smaller than a standard gen 3. And that the gen 4 without backstrap is about the same as a gen 3 sf.

You get more capacity with the Glock 21 than you do the M&P unless you run the extended mag in the M&P.   For a nightstand gun, I would want the most mag capacity I could reliably facilitate.

Glock has 13rds, M&P has 10rds.  Extended M&P mag is 15rds.

Taran Tactical makes a machined aluminum mag extender for the Glock that takes it to 17rds.

Wow! I did not know that. 17 rounds would make it a beast!!!

I would have to start doing some curls so I can keep it on target!

Agree with looking at the FN 45's also!

I took a very long hard look at the FN FNX-45 Tactical before I ultimately bought a Gen4 Glock 21.  For me it simply boiled down to cost.  The FNX-45 Tactical is about $1,000 which is easily 1911 territory.  The Glock 21 Gen 4, even with a threaded barrel, was just slightly more than half that.

You probably already knew this, but just in case you didn't...

The non-Tactical version is $699 and still has 3 15rd mags.

See here: http://grabagun.com/fnh-usa-fnx-45-usg-blk-45acp-15-1-sfty.html

I love the tacticool version, but if I were going to carry it, I'd get the FNX non-tactical version.

That said, I love my Gen 4 G21. :pleased:

I think if I were to dish out that kind of money I would probably just go a little more and get a P227...

Or the 21 and a half case + of ammo. :)

Love my gen4 21. It fits my hand great. I'm not an M&P fan, so I can't really say. The Ruger SR45 was an excellent feeling choice, as well. Curious about that new Remington 45 in another thread. 15 rounds in that one, too. Wonder how it's gonna pan out?

My P220 is the most accurate handgun I have.  I occasionally compete against myself using my Colt 1911, Glock 21, and Sig P220, same conditions, same ammo.    Not sure if its the sights, the grip angle, or the weight, but the P220 in my hands just performs measurably different than the others.

If I was trying to stay in the $600 range then I'd go with the G21 or M&P. Anything above that and I'd like choose the Sig P227 as mentioned above.
