Bald Eagles in Middle TN

Recommended Posts

A few moments ago one of my daughters and I noticed what we both thought looked like a bald eagle flying over our neighbors house.  While I am aware of eagles in other parts of TN, I have never heard of bald eagles around here.  I could also be completely wrong about what I thought I saw.

There are several nesting pairs around Cheatham and and Percy Priest. They are easy to spot if you know where to look.

We have a lot on Middle Tennessee and there are neat to look at . We used to go 4-wheeling at LBL at Turkey Bay and see them in and around their nests there all the time and flying around . But to me the most awesome bird here is the Great Horned Owl. They are huge and pound for pound one of the greatest predators ever. I had one fly down over my car's hood and it was around 4-5 feet wide with it's wings spread.

Great Horned Owls are really cool. The power in their feet is amazing.  Also amazing how something that big can be so quiet.

Pound for pound.... all 3lbs of them. ;)

Heck yeah and even though they weigh so little , they can draw down and scoop up a rabbit , small dog , or whatever and take off with it. They don't weigh much but can grab much more heavier things .  They are extremely silent during flight. When I deer hunt , if I ever see a Great Horned Owl , I feel as if I am satisfied even if I don't get a deer that day. Those birds are AWESOME.
