For just taking the shooting portion of the test, I would stay away from +p if she is at all recoil sensitive. Those 148gr wadcutters would probably be the best choice, IMO.

+ 1 for those rounds. Accurate and recoil friendly.

Have you tried any of the local gunshops?

Worst comes to worst, if the day of her class happens and you have not found any let me know. I could set you up with 50 rounds.

Just stay away from that Ultramaxx junk, unless you want a trip to the gunsmith.

Never Heard of or tried the Ultramaxx. Probably won't now either!

I ordered Fiocchi for my wife to practice with. I've had good luck with them.

Our own MusicMan blew up his AR with Ultramaxx, and UM paid for it. Also another fellow's AR documented on a different forum.

Dunno if any documented KaBooms on handgun calibers.

Just PM if you need them.

thanks, I'll see how it goes and if we still haven't found any by around the 7th of Jan, then I'll pm you. Her class is the 10th. I may try to talk her into practicing with my 9mm and test with that since 9mm seems to be in vast supply. Thanks to all for suggestions. :)

I forgot about Georgia Arms after not seeing them at the last 2 gun shows!

Try a local Gun Shop not a Big Box store. :P

You can take the class with any handgun. It doesn't have to be the on eyou plan to carry. Find and borrow a friend's handgun with a more readily available round. Heck, you can even bring a .22 if you want. In fact, my class rented out .22's for the test if you didn't have a gun.

Phantom6 - Austin's

oh, that guy.

I would think he has some .38 special in his shop that he will gladly give you free of charge.

Okay well not free, but I bet he has some in the shop where the class is held.

.38's are so easy (and cheap) to reload, I don't think I've ever bought a box of factory stuff.

thanks for all the offers & advice. I did find some at Coal Creek the other night so she's all set. The .38 special is on my list of calibers to reload.
