Only 5 ft, husband has a mossberg 590?

Not a snob towards non 12 gauge but wouldn't mind it if I could find shorter with less reoil want something shorter I am able to hold, but will do damage.I have shot a 12 gauge but his recoil is bad and the stock is like 14 inches to trigger without stock, and the stock is 12 inches without pad , Short = Short arms and I can not hold the pump and it's too long to hold at shoulder and can only hold on bicep-not good. I am looking more for something with like 10 inches at the most with pad?Any suggestions??? Thanks!

How about a youth model? Maybe an extra shoulder pad and something in a 20 gauge.

Knoxx Recoil Soltions makes an adjustable stock for your Mossberg that makes the length of pull adjustable from 11.25 to 15.25-inches. It is also claimed that it reduces felt recoil up to 95%.

Might be just what you need.

Home defense? Duck hunting? Skeet?

According to experts, when loaded with the proper shot, the 20 ga can have a destructive impact equivalent to the 12 ga at typical home defense ranges (30 feet or less) and has 55% less felt recoil- it is a good home defense choice at close range.

But if you need to reach out and touch someone on the other side of the back pasture 50 yards away, the 20 ga starts to fall short. But at close ranges it is a fine home defense weapon and is more manageable by everyone except a 400 pound Sasquatch because of the lower recoil.

For more info on the shotgun for home defense, , check out this great recent podcast-- Just last night I listened to most of it- had two folks (Massad Ayoob for one) on the show who had written books on shotguns- these folks are shotgun experts. I listen to the podcast on my computer when I ride my exercise bike. Better than TV for me! If you use an Ipod or download it from Itunes as an mp3 file, you can play it through your car stereo. Beats listening to bad radio, for sure.

i too am have been looking for a small shotgun for home defense. I've looked at Remmy 870 youth model with 18.5" barrel, but they like lots of things are in short supply. Any ideas on where to find such an item at a reasonable price?

Husband wants that one with the adjustable stock 11-15 that has a big gap in the middle and the handle behind trigger but from what I got that is without the pad. It is bad recoil for him now with the OG stock already.And I know he isn't going to let me pick the stock.

His barrel is 18 inches. And the pump is too far away for me to hold safely with the stock raised to bicep.

Nice little short Benelli semi-auto -- no pump, good enough for the Marines and Spec Ops.

Yeah I dont know your budget but if length of pull is a concern a semi-auto would probably suit you better.

You can get a buttpad for an AR for less then 10 bucks online to fit them,or do like what I did,and stick a medium Limbsaver on it.

That ammo I linked earlier is also very low recoil.....I like to compare it to a baby fart cause it just goes poof when fired lol

You were misinformed. All other things being equal, 20ga has much less perceived recoil and a more than enough kinetic energy upon impact to do a fine job as a self-defense round. .410 is not, in my opinion, a good choice for a home shotgun caliber. Most tactical shotgunners that I've talked to tend to agree.

Remington makes a youth model 20 gauge with a 21 inch barrel. Benelli makes a short-stock Nova Pump, if I recall correctly. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Buy an inexpensive shotgun at your local pawn shop, and trim the stock to fit your preference. Just a few minutes with saw and file and sandpaper. Then stain and varnish. Add a rubber pad, if you like.

Consider a Mossberg Model 500 in 20 gauge. Then, there are several after market stocks available. ATI maked a top folder and others have collapsible stocks...the 20 has considerably less recoil than 12 and there is a much better variety of loads than for .410...and with the folding stocks...time may be somewhat critical.
