Just finished this on Netflix and holy crap what an excellent film. It tells the story of an Irish unit deployed (and hung out to dry) on a UN peacekeeping mission during the Congo Crisis of 1961. It also has lots of wonderful FAL goodness.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago and it was captivating. The firearms and props appear to be period correct and the storylines really good. After I finished watching it I spent the next couple of days researching it online which was very worthwhile. I've always been a fan of the Carl Gustav m/45 and Vickers HMG which are very prominent in this film. Its  interesting how the Irish Army of hat period had a hodgepodge of Enfield rifles, FN/FAL's. Swedish K SMG and the Vickers HMG. They just used what they already had and the little that they could afford.

+1 watched it last week.  Never heard of it, but I'm sure there are thousands more stories like these that we have not/nor will ever hear about.

It reminded me of Benghazi, unfortunately.

The colonization of Africa and collapse of imperialism post WWI opened the door for multi national conflicts even through today.

Even by 1961, how many military weapons were already scattered across the continent?

With the Irish heritage of depravation, I'd bet these guys scourged every bit of kit they could find.

At least my guess as to why the variety of weapons employed.

It started kind of slow and I lost interest. Sounds like I need to rethink that and give it another try...thanks.

Watched it today while laid up w/ a bad back. Good flick! Thanks for sharing the recommendation.

(How sad is it that an independent studio like Netflix makes a better movie than the bazillion-dollar powerhouses?)
