Christmas Suggestions

I know, it's early, but I need to do some planning. The girlfriend really really loves Christmas so I try to do something special each year. She's from Florida so she hasn't seen much of Tennessee, other than places I've taken her. The first year we went to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and last year I took her to Rock City to see the lights. I also took her out to make a glass ornament at iGNiS Glass studio, which was cool but a short experience. I would really recommend checking out iGNiS,but I'd also go as a group to kind of extend the experience.

I'd like to know of anything else in the area that I may be missing, be it lights or making something. It could be in the Chattanooga area or it could be a short day trip. I've kind of thought about doing the Biltmore House, but that's going to be more than a day trip. :)

We've got people spread out everywhere, so I figure I can get some good suggestions!

Did you check out tripadvisor.com?  May give you something to browse around on and get some ideas.

Biltmore is a great place to see.  Also Helen, GA (Bavarian atmosphere) is a great place to visit around the holidays.

Make a day trip up through Lynchburg, do the Jack Daniels tour, then over to George Dickell. Then up to the Opry Gaylord for the light show. Also check out Lynchburg Winery there on the square in Lynchburg. They have some pretty decent wines and a wine tasting where you get to keep the glass as a momento for like $5 to 6 bucks. I have enough of the glasses for everyone on the Holidays. LOL :)

Highly recommend both of these places.  I grew up in the Asheville, NC area so seeing the Biltmore at Christmas is a must see if at all possible. I have been many times and am always amazed. Lived in North Ga for 20+ years and Helen Ga is a very neat town.  Christmas was always a fun time to visit.

Thanks for the heads up on some places. I have been giving thought to heading back towards Nashville to do the JD tour again with friends. I enjoyed it and it would be a good next stop to check out the Opry. Get a hotel and stay the night maybe.

I had no idea they had lights set up in Bristol and I hadn't heard of Helen, GA. I've got to say from what I've looked up Helen looks like a lot of fun! Very beautiful looking place as well. I think this one is going to be top of the list!

Plan ahead for Helen,  GA if you're going to spend the night.  At one time they had a 2 to 3 year wait for hotel rooms during peak seasons.  Not sure if it's still that way or not.

Try the Grove Park Inn in Asheville.......around Christmas they always have a Gingerbread House competition.....plus the Inn is just a memorable experience.
