I just got my Dad's Remington 1950 512 after he passed away a few weeks ago. First firearm I ever shot. It's the bolt action version of what you have. I plan to shoot it some as soon as I have time. It was a user, and wasn't in great condition. Anyway, I know exactly how you feel.

That, my friend, is treasure. Plain and simple. And you aren't rambling. Just celebrating the life of a very important person.

The memories and rifle are both treasures.  Cherish them always.  Thanks for sharing your memories. It reminded me of when my Dad gave me his weapons and the words that came with them.  These are memories I like to reminisce about periodically.

Great gun and great man. I know how you feel I have a shotgun that was passed down from my great grand dad. Lots of stories came with it.

Awesome ! When you and your children shoot it I'm sure your Grandaddy will be smiling from above  Thanks for posting that treasure .

Great memories.  We all owe him our gratitude for his service to our country in WW2.  I hope he got to make a Honor Flight before he passed,

Heriloom guns are a wonderful way to pass on tradition to our kids.  I have several passed to me, and some I would love to get a hold of, but others in the family have.  I only hope they appreciate them as much as I do.  I plan to pass on my to my own kids.

What a truly great generation those WWII vets were!  My grandfather passed when I was too young to fully understand what he had done, but I made up for from a great uncle who told many stories about D-Day.  He was a mountain pastor, who had many sermons that he infused his D-Day experience with.  He would weep heavily has he told what he saw and experienced.  He is gone on too, I would love to hear those stories again.
