C-Tac vs. M-Tac

Finally have the funds in place, just trying to decide which one to go with.

C-Tac or the M-Tac.... (I'll be concealing a USP compact.)

I found a video of a review of the two.

They both seem to conceal about the same with little difference.

I like the idea of the definite "click" of the C-Tac... But the M-Tac

seems to hold as well.

I had posted before about this and in looking it over again a lot of

you guys owned the C-Tac and really liked it, but said you thought the

M-Tac would be even better.

Hoping to order this week. Really torn between the two.

I have the CTAC.

I was thinking the kydex holster part was the same in regards to the retention. I thought the biggest differences were the leather backing on the MTAC which is suppose to be even more comfortable and the interchangeable kydex parts that you can use the same holster body with different guns.

I have thought about going with a MTAC next, but that would require me getting a new gun, at this point, I can't come up with a reason not to keep my CTAC. Especially with the Vclips, I have no complaints with the holster.

I have both and love both.

The benefits of the CTAC are more of a "snap" when re-holstering, a more compact overall package, and the fact you can get a better grip when drawing since your fingers more easily slip behind the grip (no leather backing blocking anything like on the MTAC).

The benefits of the MTAC are versatility in that you can change bodies out for different pistols -and- a tiny bit more comfort as the weight seems to be dispersed more and the leather backing can be worn more comfortably against bare skin.

I used to say the CTAC was probably a better option if you wanted to save a few bucks or only wanted to use the holster with one single pistol. However, Comp-Tac has recently raised the price of the CTAC to equal the MTAC IIRC so that negates that argument.

You can't go wrong with either one really but I guess I might lean toward the MTAC if I had to choose only one.

I've heard good things about the MTAC and have had a CTAC. I found with my CTAC I had to do a little Dremel work to shape and reduce some corners and edges to get it comfortable. Once i did that it was awesome. I was using it with a fullsize XD9 with no problems and great results.

I have both...the M-tac is 1000x more comfortable....as far as concealability they are both equal imho

I've sworn by Comp-Tacs products for years. In my opinion and as a long time user of both, the MTAC has rendered the CTAC obsolete. I don't understand why they keep selling the CTAC save for the fact that they are wary of producing the MTAC for firearms having manual thumb safeties.

I'm 99% sure I'll order the M-Tac tonight now. Once I get it in and have worn it a bit I'll take some pictures and post a quick review to this thread.

Went to the mall today with the family and was wearing a G17 in an MTAC tucked. All day long and no one even gave me a second glance. When we got home I pulled my shirt tail out and showed my dad I was carrying. He couldn't believe it. I have the brown clips over a brown belt.

Unfortunately, we then had a lengthy discussion about wether it was legal or not to carry in public. Sadly, he has a TN carry license but has no clue about what is legal. He does not actually carry.

EDIT: I had the wife on print patrol all day. She said she never once noticed it until right as we were leaving and I picked up our daughter to carry her across the parking lot. She said she only noticed it then because she knew what she was looking for.

EDIT2: I still feel the CTAC has its place in the Comp-Tac lineup. I carry my G30 in one pretty regularly and like it quite a lot. Tungsten - I love the new avatar.

I really don't think body shape has anything to do with it. I've used both and the MTAC is infinitely more comfortable no matter if we're talking about wearing it in summer, winter, fat or thin months. I tend to wear an undershirt no matter whether I am wearing a t-shirt or a polo over it, so maybe that's why my leather MTAC has never gotten slimy or sweaty or whatever.

No, the leather is fairly stiff (stiffer than most belts) and doesn't overlap the top of the slide or the beavertail. I suppose that might cause some fatter folks some consternation as the slide would still dig into soft rolls of skin since it's not covered by the leather backing, but that's why God made gymnasiums.

I just got my MTAC today. I tried it with a couple of SIG's and so far I really like it.

I will wear it most of the day tomorrow. If it works out I will be ordering a spare body for a 1911.

I would give the MTAC a shot (pun intended). I have had 2 CTAC's one for my former XD and one for a full size 1911. Both were great holsters but the MTAC looks more comfortable. The CTAC is not uncomfortable, but given the choice betweent having leather or Kydex against my body, I would go for the leather. Its going to have some flex to it and not "dig in" to your spare tire. Don't know if you have one or not, but I do and it sometimes gets in the way of an IWB.

First Impressions...

Workmanship seems great. Really like the way the leather feels against my skin, and my pistol is held in place EXTREMELY well. Very secure. I ran up and down the stairs a couple of times and hardly any movement.

I have noticed I will need to take a dremel tool to my clips once I have them finally adjusted. They poke just a little when I bend over. Not bad but enough to bug me.

Dress pants seem to be both more comfortable and conceals better. Jeans are a tad tight, but not much. My wife said she could notice it more in Jeans but she wasn't sure it was just because she new it was there though. Kids couldn't tell.

I'm kind of weird... I'm a righty but I wear a watch on my right hand and carry my wallet in my right back pocket. Yeah... like I said werid I know. So I am going to have to get used to carrying my wallet on the left side.

I have never owned an IWB holster before, just the old "mexican carry" when I need to. So I can't honestly say this is the greatest thing in the world... yet I do see how it could be. VERY Comfortable. Been wearing it for a while around the house. Sitting, moving around, etc. It just feels... right. (If that makes any sense.) very easy to forget about. But also secure.

Drawing with it concealed took a little time. Wasn't pulling hard enough, or wasn't grabbing enough of my shirt to clear it. But it didn't take long and I could present it fairly well.

I'll probably post back to this thread after I have worn it a few months. But over all... first impression? I feel i more than got what i paid for. The only thing I wish I had done was ordered another set of clips in black.

I carry mine more towards 3 oclock and I still put my wallet in the right side. Thats in blue jeans I dont wear dress pants very often
