Sling screw reinstall

I had a guy ask me how to fix a stock he bedded and the bedding material seeped into the threads for the sling screws.

I don't know if he could redrill with a small drill bit and try to reset the coarse thread.

Anyone have a good idea in doing this proper?

Depnding on what he used for the bedding and how much is in the screw hole, he should be able to run a tap down it and be good to go.

I believe it is accuraglas that was used. Where might we find a tap to borrow/buy that has such a coarse thread?

I had to do this on my 710 when the front sling mount came loose.

JB Weld.

Drill the hole so it can accept the sling pin. Mix it up. Scoop it in and press in the pin.

Let it set for a day or so to let it fully cure. Worked like a charm for mine.

Good idea Mike! I wonder if I could go further and wrap a little bitty strip of teflon tape on the screw before mixing so as to be able to remove the screw later?

I let mine get glued in. I couldn't think of any reason that it would need to come out anymore so i let it get stuck.

J-B weld, what?? Just retap the threads with a coarse tap. You can find one at home depot or Lowes. Buy a cheap set at Harbor Freight if you like. Just do it the right way not the redneck way. Any gun smith can do it for you. Take it to Hero-Gear if you can not figure

I have never ever seen a tap for sling screw threads.

Just do it the right way not the redneck way

If your smart about the application you can't tell it's JB'd.

Be smart about it. Don't just goop it in there and expect it to look nice.

BTW, there's nothing redneck about fixing something yourself. That's the majority of the problem with today's society. They look to "someone else" to fix everything for them.
