Keeping a deer cool

Hi, when I got my first deer it was 28 degrees. The low this weekend is about 70.  It's an hour drive home.  Do you guys take a cooler of ice to stuff the deer when you get to the truck, in case you get one?   Seems like a logical thing to do but not sure of any other tips and tricks.

Have you thought about trying the gutless method of quartering a deer?  You might want to look up youtube videos on it.  It might save you time and you can quarter it right where it falls.

Thanks, I had not seen that. Pretty cool.  So it would still require coolers with ice (right?) But looks easier than keeping a whole deer cool.  I'd also like to get the ribs and upper organs for the dog, but suppose that could be done after getting the big sections off.  Thanks for the tips!

A couple of times I had to wait until the next day to drop off at the processors, all I did is put some bags of ice inside the cavity to keep it cool until the next morning.  Held up well, even though it may not of been super hot during the night, so I figure an hour or two should be just fine.

Yes you would still need a big cooler and ice but I think you can get the quarters on ice quicker with the gutless method because you can cut it up right where it falls instead of waiting to get it back to your camp to skin.
