Why only have 1??

Either way..

If you HAVE to only have 1, the Glock 19 hands down.  That being said, my Glock 17 is the first gun I bought myself, I still own it, Ive put 10K+ downrange, and its currently on my bedside, and I trust my family's life to it. I shoot it better than all my other pistols including my 19...

Many pistols come and go, my 17 will never leave

It's hard to take a Dremel to a $500 gun, but a 17 chopped to take G-19 magazines has always made me have to adjust myself.

Glock is a Dremel loving plastic gun that lends itself to fine tuning to nearly any shooter, even some handicapped shooters:  http://brassstacker.com/glock/slide-pull-for-glock-pistols/

Additionally Glocks have a plastic that makes them prime platforms for dremel or even wood burning pen work.  Additionally Devcon 290 adheres to Glock plastic making custom grips a possibility.

Glocks have simple design that lends themselves to great aftermarket trigger parts:  http://zevtechnologies.com/glock_products/glock_trigger_kits

However if you want a really great 9mm large pistol the size of the Glock 17+ that gives you serious range cred then get a Single Action Sig 9mm.

I should have put in my original comment what others have said about try both. My comment was more meant for me the 19 is the best size compromise. If you shoot the 17 better, can conceal it, and will actually carry it everyday then by all means go with the 17. I can conceal a 17 as well but it can start to dig a little more riding around all day plus I conceal extra mag and cuffs in the waistband so I like minimal weight and size.  I'm a 32 waist so I have minimal tactical real estate lol. If you feel the 17 will fit your lifestyle then go with that. God forbid you are ever in a gunfight but I'm sure if you have the 17 you won't be thinking "man I wish I had a Glock 19  instead".

This is another "point" for the P320.  They probably already make the grip frame you want, and if they don't, $40 grip frames you can have shipped right to the house are a heck of a lot better to Dremel on than $500 guns that have to go through an FFL.

If for concealed carry then I would suggest the 19. If not for concealed I would go with the 17 for many of the reasons mentioned above. If for competition I would go straight to a 34. If I was to do it all again I would have a 19 for daily carry and a 34 for everything else. Instead I went the route of tricking out my 17.

If I could only choose one it would be a 19.
