Brand new USA broadheads are dull?

Hi, I purchased my first broadheads this week.  Went with NAP HellRazor because they were one of the few to say US made and looked like a strong design.

 

Just opened them to find that they are not shaving sharp and won't cut paper like you'd test a knife after sharpening.  They are really dull.  I was expecting razor sharp. 

I'll sharpen these up, but is this normal?  Do they ship them dull now to avoid accidental cuttings when folks open the pack?

It's only a 3 pack, of fixed (non replaceable) tips and I tried a couple.  Does seem odd.  But these are my first ever broadheads so trying to figure this out.  Thanks!

Comments online about them seem to be pretty good overall too.

I would have expected them to be really sharp as well. I just put my Rage Hypodermic broadheads on a few minutes ago. They are sharp for sure. Maybe call customer service and ask them? I've heard good things about NAP

So admittedly I am still learning a lot of this.  I ran the edges of one of the tips over my 1,000 grit water stone.  Sure polished up the faces nicely and removed the grain from them.  However I'm still having difficulty slicing paper.  Will try cleaning up the edges with a strop tomorrow and report back.  Thanks for all the help so far!

It's perfectly normal with a lot of fixed blade broadheads with non-removable blades.

Hellrazors, Montec G5s, Magnus, Woodsman.... they all need work before they're hunting ready. They're worth the effort though. Much tougher heads than replaceable blades.

Never heard this before. If I buy broadheads I'd expect them to be ready. Thanks for the info though

A.) It vastly reduced production costs. Plus keeping fixed heads sharp through packing, storage, distribution & rattling around on shelves for years is insanely difficult.

B.) The manufacturers assumption is that you'll shoot them into targets before you ever hunt with them, so they'd need to be resharpened to hunt anyway (And rightly so....)

The only folks I know of that make a practice fixed blade (with non replaceable blades) is Montec.

I know Muzzy used to have a practice head with their broadheads.
