Red dot / illuminated reticle suggestions?

Yet another thread related to my M1 Carbine project.

I have decided after my last outing, I hate the railed front handguard. After 50 rounds it's a heat sink and gets ridiculously hot.

Also not a fan of the scout style set up.

I've re installed the over receiver mount (no optics) and will run another 100+ to evaluate extraction.

If successful, I will get a good optic .

100 yards and less, realistically 50 and less.

Some kind of illumination

1" tube.

$300 or less.

Does it exist? I've been unsuccessful.

Bushnell TRS-25?  Good red dot that can usually be found for around $75 on sale.

I have several of the Bushnell TRS-25s on various weapons and have been pleased with them.  I have other optics as well that cost a good deal more but bang for the buck, the TRS-25 is a decent red dot.

All great recommendations; if my over receiver mount fails, I'll probably get a Burris Fast fire 3

I am specifically looking for a heavier duty option to the Millet SP1.

The Numrich mount has integral 1" rings, so I am limited to what I can use.

Looking at this lately myself. The Burris FastFire 3 seems rather good. But I have a Vortex Strikefire ll on a rifle and quite happy with it. I'm really liking the CQB style scopes, but realistically, unless you are doing something more than pleasure shooting and getting into competative shooting ; I think spending a lot is unnecessary. Primary arms stuff can be had reasonable, and I have A Bushnell TRS25 that works well.

But like you, I really want the FastFire 3. Just have to wait a bit for it.

I have one you can test drive if you want.

Thanks for the offer.  If I don't just put another Bushnell(an older TRS model I found in the safe) on it tomorrow, I might try to connect and take you up on it.

Just a tidbit of information on how to improve red dots. If they take a 2032 battery and have a intensity knob, not a intensity button, you can swap out the single 2032 battery for two 2016 batteries. It makes the dot a lot more brighter. The 2016 batteries are identical in size to the 2032 except they are 1/2 the thickness so you can double them up. Makes sights that are barely useable in bright sunlight useable.

Vortex makes a good unit.  Their products have a lietime, unlimited, unconditional guarantee.  I just got a Spitfire AR (specially made for 1/3 co-witness).  Retail was $349; purchased for $230.  It uses a AAA battery.  The reticle is the best for me, using concentric circles.  It's a prism scope, which is great for my astigmatism.  I'm sure there is a model that you can use.
