Radio apps

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good radio app for my cellphone?

I've just had a bluetooth stereo fitted in the old truck, after years of being tired of constantly searching for stations when I drive across the country......or to Chattanooga.

I'm looking for something that just plays regular stations (rock, preferably)

Google Play Music for $9.99/month. If you watch a lot of YouTube videos its even more worth it. No more ads and it allows background playback of videos, at least it does on an Android phone. You should be able to get a 1-3 month free trial to check it out.

For regular radio stations, there is iheartradio.  Free.

I use spotify.  Freakin' love it.  I save my data for netflix and download most albums while I'm home on wifi.  I do stream some, but not a ton.  Put a 128 gig sd card in the phone so I can download all my tunes is the highest quality format I can.

I have been using iHeart radio exclusively for about four years now. I create my own 'custom' stations and it keeps in in tunes that I am in the mood for. In the cars I link to the main stereo, on the bike I keep headphones in.

I would go insane without iHeart, as traditional radio kills me. Between morning shows, self absorbed DJs and a catalog of ten songs, it baffles me that folks still bother listening.

If you stream music, pay attention to your used data on your cell plan. I use Google Play Music all the time, but mostly on Wi-Fi. We went on vacation last year, and played music all day long for a week at the beach. By the last day, I was getting alerts that I had used 95% of my data plan. We had to increase our plan just to avoid a huge overage charge.

In my truck, I installed a radio with a USB port on it that can read a thumbdrive. I loaded it up with about 200 albums, and got rid of songs I don't care for. Then I put it on random play. It's like my own radio station, with no commercials.

Most newish vehicles now come with a USB port. You might see if your vehicle has one, and if it can read a thumbdrive. You can also just copy mp3's to your phone and play from it over the usb / aux port.
