Would like to take one of these for a test drive before purchasing as I'm interested in purchasing. I've read a lot of good reviews on them especially for the price tag. I live in Lakeland TN and a member of MSSA.  Wonder if any other members might have one of these they would be willing to meet me at the range and shoot a few rounds.

It is a clone of the Shield.  First impression will be favorable.  This is where it ends.....its a Taurus.  I had one and it started light primer strikes, heck Taurus gave up on the fix and sent a new one which I sold.  If you are buying a gun for SD then pay an appropriate amount of $$ for quality and dependability

How can the 709 be a clone of the Shield when it was released 2 years before the Shield?

And yes, clearly all Taurus guns are junk because yours had a problem.  The Shield certainly didn't get recalled and no glock has ever failed in the history of the world. Especially not something exceedingly stupid like the slide flying off when the trigger is pulled. :bored:

I have no idea of their birthdays, but I do know they are very similar in size, weight , holsters, etc.  Maybe S&W copied Taurus for a change?  I did share my personal experience and have seen several other Taurus fall apart on the range.  My opinion of their semi autos still stands.
