How far do you have to go to get a gun?

It's funny how your mind works when you start carrying a weapon all the time.

I was laid out in the recliner in my pj's last month and thought the EXACT same thing. What would I do? What COULD I do? If someone kicks in the front door I'm stuck sitting there with my pecker in my hand. (Not exactly defenseless, but close...)

I can't carry a full sized .40 in my jimmy jammies. The dog might help, she's a Great Dane rollin' 'bout 130lbs. But how much time does that buy me? Not enough to cross the path in front of the door and get to the bedroom.

So, since then, I keep the carry weapon next to me in the recliner on late nights after I change clothes.

I am good to go if I'm in the bedroom, theres guns all over the place in there, just never thought about late nights in the recliner until then though.

Why do you have your pe........, never mind, I don't want to know

I'd have to go into the bedroom, about 30 feet. I like to believe my environment is a little more secure than most. I live back in the woods, about 1/3 mile to a two lane county road. A creek ravine boarders one side of my property and there are two one hundred acre mostly wooded parcels boardering two other sides. The property to the rear is fenced so I expect no intrusion from there.

My drive gate, about 1000 feet down the drive, is closed except when I am expecting someone. My 85lb GSD that is always by my side hears any vehicle traffic on my gravel road, usually before my drive alert sounds. She usually gets "alert duty" at least once a day as the deer come to visit. So in the event someone would be unlucky enough to get close enough to 'kick in the door' they would have a welcoming party of big black dog followed up by model 12 with OO.

I actually feel quite secure.

I live in farm country. My theory is that 'punks' who would force enter are 'skeeered of country.'

Yep, I'd say you are definitely in the lowest risk percentile. I used to live much the same, and am hoping to be back in similar environs before too long.

Zero feet. If I haven't been carrying that day I might have to run about 50' to the bedroom around assorted walls. Since the only time I don't currently carry is when I go to work and I usually re-arm when I get home the running 50' scenario wouldn't be likely.
