I got room for 7 in the mini-van.

I like to think of it as my A-Team Van.

But its really a Honda Odyssey

You still planning on making a pit stop on the way in? :koolaid:

Go for it DB!

Not a bad deal at all! I'm a big fan of the midlength myself, and you really can't go wrong w/ RRA. What kind of idea did they give you for a lead time?

That is what the RRA website is quoting on time. I am guessing everything is at the end of that time frame if not being pushed longer, but I would have to contact them or get other verification of actual time.

You drefinitly need to see Joe at Hero Gear. Hook you up!

That will be definately part of the plan if my local contact can't get, find, order what I need an want.

I'm still on the beginning of this process. I still got to do some pawn shop hunt'n!

and the Complete Lower Half / Standard Trigger / 6-Position Tactical CAR Stock for $300 with 2-4 months delivery.

Would need to add either a carry handle for @$150 or a flip up front site for @ $80-$125.

So my total build would be around $900-$950 plus any tax, BC, transfer fees, etc.:2cents:

Is there any reason you need a complete lower?

You can build it yourself and save 50-100 bucks.

You can also get carry handles for around 50

Riders welcome.

Don't have to have a complete lower, and would/will consider actually building it. $50...I am willing to pay the extra, $100 is pushing it towards building.

Just on that site, RRA, if you price out separately, a stripped lower, trigger kit (standard), pistol grip and 6 position CAR stock (it is the cheapest 6 position stock) and you are at $314. This is all from RRA website and sure I might be able to find lower prices on parts elsewhere.

Carry handle for $50, even better.:koolaid:

It's an exciting time, my friend! I was not brave enough at the time to attempt a build so I bought a complete rifle as my first. I bought a Stag 2L from Hero-Gear on the Friday before the election. It fits your description exactly. It is a flat-top with a fixed front sight. I have a MI BUIS. I have already outfitted it with an ADM Recon Scope Mount (thanks nsnate02) and a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40. Its a great combo. I plan on adding a Eotech soon.

From personal experience, I would recommend, even at risk of slightly higher prices, buying local if you can find it. Buy things you can go and put your hands on if someone has it. Case in point, jcochran88 on here ordered a rear locking pin fron Del-Ton I think, almost 2 months ago. It a $2 part maybe, and it has yet to ship. When he ordered, he was order number #33,000-something in line!! That's crazy!!! Just my opinion, but I don't mind travelling a bit to fondle the goods. I've been back to Hero-Gear several times, a near 300 mile round trip, but even now he seems to be one of the few folks able to keep stock. Plus he's a plethora of knowledge. And his prices have held steady.

This not a commercial for HG, but it is a ringing endorsement.

Good luck, they are a blast to fool with. Love mine!!!

Lefty I see.

What do you think of the Stag so far. Have found a Stag M2 which is the same as yours but for a righty.

I've been going through gunbroker and damn the prices on that site!

Stripped lower + DTI rifle kit = good budget AR

Not that I'm biased or anything.

Nice. I thought I looked at Del-Tone, but I must have been at a different site. I am at del-ton.com a found the rifle kit minus the stripped lower for $465. They have them, think I am going to order one. Then go on my trek for a stripped lower!!!

Questions:

What or how much of a difference is there between a 16" M4 and a 16" Midlength. It appears to be about 3-4" in the handguards? Am I close?

Flat top upper with T marks or a Flat top upper with M4 feed ramp?

Chrome or not chrome lined barrel? I am not going to put thousands and thousands of rounds through it a month or a year, I wish!, but reality, no. I know Chrome is a little easier to clean but.....

As soon as I get this figured out, I think I am going to order it! Thanks for the help.

You are correct with your guess.

I've also heard the mid-length gas system causes less wear and tear as it has a smoother stroke than the carbine. Supposedly less recoil than a carbine as well, but let's face it, recoil has never been a problem with an AR.

I went with the middy myself. The barrel is just as short as a carbine, but you get more handguard real-estate. I went with a quad rail on mine, and I've always liked the looks of longer rails on ARs, so it was a no-brainer for me.

EDIT to add: You shouldn't need the M4 feed ramps if you go with the middy. I'd go w/ the T-marked upper. Personally, I went with a chrome-lined myself... Will I ever REALLY need a CL barrel? Probably not, but I like things over-engineered.

I've got the DT middy and they are supposed to be more reliable due to less pressue issues. They don't have the grenade launcher cut and handguards are a little more difficult to find.

Just know that Del-Ton is WAY backed up and their website says 8-16 weeks to process. I would guess closer to 16 weeks to get the upper. They actually build theirs. With that being said they have always underpromised and over delivered on every order I have ever had with them.

here's mine on a Sabre lower ad YHM Phantom 5c FH. I have since added a YHM flip front sight/gas block

Well, as long as we're turning this into a Del-Ton middy pic post...

DSCN0480-1.jpg

I'd say the "bang for your buck" that you get from Del-Ton is worth the wait. I'd go for it since you don't have a lower in hand ready to build right now.

Strick, where to look for a detachable carry handle, most that I have seen are aroun the $75 mark and then you have shipping, this one is $75 and the shipping is already there for the whole thing?

So I have one yes for Ergo grip and one no? Why?

Strick, I am going to start calling you "The Todd", I would guess, from conversations and comments here, that you two have a lot in common!

He said he went without....ma bad.

A few of those have free shipping too.

I've only ordered from the guys that I linked for the carry handle once, but it was a very fast transaction, even with my last minute call to add some stuff to my order, haha. Good guys. Good prices on Lancer mags as well. Lancer mags aren't "tacticool" they're "tactibadass".
