Is anyone watching the opening ceremonies?  I've seen some weird things in my life but it is beyond bizarre.  

Now, it's turned into a global warming documentary.

They have to make it about something to take the attention off the HIV infested swimming pools with broken beer bottles around and in them, kidnappings, muggings, robberies, Zika, and the smallest worry of all, getting murdered over a cell phone.

US Athletes unfairly treated by the IRS, as reported on NPR.

When you win a medal, apparently you also get a check. Call it a prize, bonus, windfall, recognition made tangible.

It is subject to tax.

Apparently it just isn't fair to charge the athletes a Victory Tax. 

Google reveals Schumer is lobbying hard, "they deserve a tax break..."

Taxing excellence is American, until it's you they tax.

Besides, they ain't there for the money, so they should be happy with any percentage of a windfall remaning after the tax paid. 

I do recognize the sacrifices the athletes make and the money can defer out of pocket expenses (especially in the lower tier sports) but it is income. 

What I object to is yet another revision to the tax code for another "special interest group."

Did watch while channel surfing; caught the climate change bit, 100,000 Military/Police presence. (fwiw Athens had 70k) and Mozambique is the 3nd largest Portuguese speaking country.

There's all kinds of stuff happening down there, the media is just trying to squash it.  No military coup or anything but people are getting roughed up pretty bad.  Just need to google it, someone popped a fire alarm and about half a dozen australian athletes were robbed, some reporter got $40k worth of gear stolen in 10 seconds, the 60 year old russian guy (bad ass) pulled the robber inside his car then shot him with his own gun - give that guy a damn gold medal. New zealanders, chinese, everyone is getting taken to atm's at gun point... stuff is going down just as expected.  Media is painting it with their usual liberal rose colored glasses.

This guy abided by their rules, he used the attacker's own gun against him +1 bonus point for following rules

Sounds like they need another event at these Olympics…….Survival. Everyone left standing gets a participation medal.

I remember when it was announced Rio would host the Olympics.  In a nod to irony, two weeks later a police helicopter was shot down.

Between the police vs. gang fighting, the gang vs. gang fighting, and the everyday street crime it all exacerbates, I don't know how anyone in their right mind thought that city was ready for the Olympics.
