How not to use your HCP

I try to take all of this sort of "news" with a big grain of salt. The media spins it, the cops spin it, the "victims" spin it, the lawyers spin it- if you aren't there, all you can know is someone's spin. We rarely actually get accurate news reports about anything, IMHO.

In a past life I worked in a secret squirrel SIGINT operation in Europe. We would hear what was happening because we eavesdropped (mostly legally) as the news was happening- we were listening while they talked live on their radios, etc.

Then we would read about it in the paper or see it on TV in a day or two. It was never the same. By the time it got to the media it had been spun into a mostly true but slightly different version that favored whoever was reporting it. If the commies reported it, the US was the villian- if the US reported it, the commies were the bad guys. Usually the "truth" was not reported by anyone, and those who actually knew what happened were ordered to be silent or told to stick to the official story.

It would be nice if we still had a free press.

I think there may be more to this...but I don NOT think that at ANY point he was in "iminant (sp?) fear of his (or anyone elses) life"

Here is a comment from the first story...

"As usual, the media has gotten the story wrong.

Hey Canyn.. Just curious as to where your quoted story came from. I've been watching the comments on the Tennessean's site and hadn't seen that particular take on the story. As usual, the comments run from thoughtful and reasoned (a few comments fit that) to reactionary (a bunch of those from both sides) to trolling (as usual, a lot of that).

Oh, "imminent" is the correct spelling. I agree, he probably did not have reason to suspect that he, his wife or kids were in imminent danger of losing their life, but it's entirely possible that a little bodily harm was just around the corner based on the "other" side of the story. He probably should have called the police while putting the gun away and then gotten out of the van.... but then again, we weren't there.

Last name of the dipstick in question is not the same last name as Voldemort. Sorry to disappoint anyone who was hoping for an early Christmas present. :D

1. I was at the Macys at Cool Springs just recently. I did not see a posting.

2. Remember, innocent until proven guilty. Maybe he's a bum who needs his HCP revoked, or maybe he just a guy with a gun who's being put through the ringer because an anti gun person saw his weapon and panicked.
