T/C Compass

Looks like T/C's new affordable rifle might be a winner.  It has a lot of features for a rifle with a MSRP of 399.  Time will tell but I bet it will be a popular hunting rifle.

Some of the features:

  • Adjustable trigger offers a crisp release for precision shooting.
  • Ergonomic, lightweight stock combines a classic look with modern contours and textured grip panels.
  • Soft rubber recoil pad gives maximum felt recoil reduction.
  • Three-lug 60 degree lift bolt provides good scope clearance and a smooth, easy cycling action.
  • Aluminum pillar bedding with a bedding system that positively locates the receiver and free-floats the barrel for outstanding accuracy.
  • Button-rifled barrel, with 5R rifling – that provides outstanding accuracy and easy cleaning.
  • Features an easy-to-use 3-position safety (with bolt lock) that provides positive tactile feel, clear visibility and easy access.
  • Detachable (5-round standard calibers, 4-round magnum calibers) rotary magazine fits flush with the stock and provides smooth feeding.
  • Receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting (Weaver-style bases included) and comes with sling swivel studs.

The barrel is even threaded for brakes or suppressors.  Comes in all the standard calibers.

Pretty cool.

That niche has some pretty stiff competition in it these days though, namely from Ruger and Savage.  The T/C better be pretty nice if it wants a piece of that pie.  The feature set reads like it should be very accurate.

Looks like a contender (see what I did there?) to me :D

I don't have any experience with the company, but lots of folks rave about their pistols and rifles that can swap caliber a easily. I bet they're not too interested in putting out anything sub par.

That said, bolt guns are Savages bread and butter and Rugers     recent offerings are nothing to sneeze at either.

Doth mine eyes deceive, or is that a capped threaded barrel?

I've been wondering when Smith (their parent company) was going to do anything new with the TC line.  The ill-fated iBolt really set them back I believe.  I like this, at least what I see so far.  For current offerings Savage is my pick in this range, but being the S&W fanboy I am as long as these are solid I'm in for a couple, at least.  Thanks for sharing, KM!
