230gr Bullseye (powder) load for IDPA

Recommended Posts

My lee manual says the minimum for a 230gr bullet is 5gr. We all know that's not true but I'm wondering what somebody you idpa guys may have tried to get close to major power factor. I know most run titegroup but I have some bullseye and want to use it up.

I can tell you that 5 gr of bullseye seems hotter than the factory stuff. I saw online 4.4 may be a good starting point. I'm gonna try to get access to a chrono soon.

My understanding is that 5 grains or Bullseye and a 230 grain fmj is either the equivalent to, or the military load. It's fairly stout. I've never varied from it because it works so well.

Mike makes a great point here... We always used this recipe... I like 5.2 grains of Titegroup too...

When I shot 45 in competition, to help with faster follow up shots, the 5grn bullseye under a 200grn makes major still and is a soft shooter. I actually load .40 to similar specs, 200 at 850 for 3gun.

Wow that's gotta be going a good bit faster with a 200 gr. I'm gonna try out the 5gr load tomorrow and see how I do.
