I'm thinking about giving it a try this summer. When you join IDPA do you also have to be a member at the club that you shoot at or can you shoot at any club as long as you have your membership info?

All you have to do is join IDPA and then attend any match anywhere. Most clubs give discounted entry fees to club members so if you shoot at one club quite a bit you might look into joining. If you are in the area the IDPA match in Oak Ridge is this Sat. at 10 o'clock come on out and give it a try.

The Gallatin Gun Club has an IDPA match on the 2nd Sat. of the month. You do not have to be a member of the Gun Club or IDPA so you can try it to see if you like it. It cost $15 for a non member and a extra $5 if you would like to shoot a second gun. www.gallatingun.com

IDPA rules (unless they've changed recently) allow you to shoot one match without joining the national org (dues about $35/yr).

At Brush Creek they let you shoot twice. FWIW,I've never seen anyone asked to leave because they werent IDPA members.

But if you join you do have to promise not to practice shooting anymore:D
