Odd posting error

Earlier today, well before the forum maintenance, I started a thread regarding hazmat fees.     When I went to post it, it acted normally but the thread never showed up so I just thought it was similar to what others had experienced.

Later in the day after the maintenance, the thread shows up but when you go to view it comes up with an error code and says, sorry there is a problem, "no posts to view" or something to that effect.   Error code: 2F173/L   I tried to link the thread below but get the following.      Just putting this out there if it will help the developers debug anything.

Is the answer to the unknown question that there is no hazmat fee for finished ammo shipped via ground, but there is for powder and primers regardless of shipping method?

Probably not. ;)

The unknown question was, does the carrier actually handle a HAZMAT shipment any differently than other shipments? Yes, a carrier needs to know if the contents of a package if it gets damaged and is leaking out, but the ORM-D label identifies live ammo but they don't charge extra fees.

So, do they charge the HAZMAT fee just because they can and people accept it, or are they actually incurring extra shipment costs by having to handle the shipment in a different way?

As I understand it it's primarily road restrictions such as some cargos can't be transported through tunnels etc. Some warehouses also segregate cargo for fire protect reasons.

I don't think the truck driver behaves differently other than possibly plackarding the truck which helps first responders in case of an accident.

Far as trucking, the main difference for the carrier of actual Hazmat classes (1-9) are the regs as to how it is hauled. Only so much total weight per truck, total weight of certain classes per truck, some is not allowed to be in same area of truck as others, some has to be only in back of truck, etc which all varies according to size/class of the vehicle and whatnot.

So yeah,  there is really an added degree of hassle, record keeping, package handling and final delivery considerations. Not to mention the extra training time required by law.

Thanks for explaining what actually goes into a Hazmat shipment and why the extra cost.   OS comes through again!
