I did two tours in the HSL, Helicopter Antisubmarine-Light, community. When we deployed we would take certain liberties painting.

On my 96 deployment onboard the same Frigate, the USS Crommelin (FFG-37) we got supplies via vert-rep from this goofy little helo. The Kamen K-Max. They were doing sea trials on it.

From 97 to 2000 I was a SERE instructor and on our off or down week ends we would work with and train Scouts, Sea Cadets, etc. That's me doing the game demo for Scout parents.

On my 2nd deployment in my first command, HS-14, onboard the USS Ranger (CV-61) we had one of our helos, a SH-3H Sea King, land on the USS Missouri (BB-63) due to MGB chip lights. She steamed along side to hop our broken helo over back to the Ranger. And she put on a little show.

Yes, please post more recent pics.  I haven't posted them because I don't have them.  This thread is for anything military.

May I assume this is for any military pictures? Or vintage historic pictures? I did 20 years in the USN and have recently started scanning some pictures to share with some buds that I deployed with. Is it ok that I share them on this thread also?

This is for ANY military pics.  I'm glad you have more recent ones as I don't.

Buck,  Do they still use the Missouri and the type of guns she has?  One time here on TGO I was talking about how stylish the WW2 guns are and just about got laughed off the board.

The Mighty Mo is decommissioned and is a floating museum at Pearl Harbor. No 16 in guns on the active inventory these days. :(

Heres a few I have scanned recently.

Iwo Jima from my view on a Frigate that I deployed on in 94

That must have been really cool to see Iwo Jima.  By chance, did they let you go ashore?

No. I would have loved to walk that beach and scale that mountain. We sailed by it and moved on. Just part of the joys of Navy life. There is an imaginary box in an ocean that we must patrol.

A few pics of me doing the hearts and minds thing in 2002 and 2003 when I still had hair and clocked in at a reasonable weight.

This wasn't during my time in, but it was from my old battalion during the deployment to Afghanistan they went on about a year after I got out of the Army.

Hearts and minds, I remember back in 1967 it  didn't work for crap. They ever get that fixed?

Not really.  There is truth in the old adage that armies of occupation have a half life when it comes to support from the locals.

Like I said, I wasn't there, but the gist I got was that their outpost was under attack, and they used to AT4 to try and blow away some cover the bad guys were using.  My old battalion was put into an area that hadn't had a US presence in a while as part of the Afghan surge in 2010.
