Military Pics & Comments Thread

What do you all think about a military pics and comments thread?  I think we all would enjoy it.  I suspect most of the pics will have guns in them.  MacGyver and TGO David, comment if you don't want this and I'll let it die.

My greatest, greatest regret in life (so far...) is that I didn't take one single photo of my time in.

Between Northern Ireland, Bosnia & Germany, plus all the regular banter & mateship stuff it would've made a great album.

I wasn't in for long, but I'm proud of my stint & wish I had some more mementos.

It was frowned upon to take pics of the Sub inside or outside, so I did not get any.

This wasn't during my time in, but it was from my old battalion during the deployment to Afghanistan they went on about a year after I got out of the Army.

Thanks for the Middle East pics.  My main interests are WW2, Korea and Vietnam - so those are mainly what I have pics from.

These are the German 88's and generally considered one of the best weapons of WW2.  I'm sure our artillery folks will know more.  These could be cranked down and used against tanks and similar things.

The German anti aircraft guns took a heavy toll on allied bombers over Germany - about 70% casualties for our guys.  Paradoxically, they may have saved lives overall as the ammo for the guns was super expensive.  I won't go look it up, though I think about 1/3 of the German military budget went to ammo for these guns.

This pic is from the battle of Kursk on the Eastern front.  This was the largest tank battle in history.  While both sides suffered heavy losses, the Russian's pretty much laid a country boy asswhoopin on the Germans.  The Russians knew this was going to happen due to intelligence from allies and had five months to prepare.

While not badass, the allies ability to break enemy codes was a real game changer in WW2.

Here are a couple of interesting ones from The Great War.

May I assume this is for any military pictures? Or vintage historic pictures? I did 20 years in the USN and have recently started scanning some pictures to share with some buds that I deployed with. Is it ok that I share them on this thread also?
