So doubletap is now selling .450 SMC.  Had never heard of this round until recently... Gonna pick up a few boxes and see what it is like.  Works in a standard .45 ACP gun that can handle +P ammo.  Puts the .45 in 10mm power territory.

Guess I missed the memo on this ammo, it looks pretty hardcore, especially that 185gr round.

Let us know.  Had not heard of this one either.  Very very interested in a range report.

If you reload or have calipers, post up the dimensions as well.  The only thing I can think of is they're using a hotter powder.

I have heard of .45Super but not this.

Just looked it up and it's pretty much the same as a .45super, which is just a .45acp with stronger brass, except the .450SMC uses a small rifle magnum primer for more brass in that area for strength

This is supposedly different than .45 super primarily from the chamber pressure.   .45 super is rated at 28,000.  .45  +p is 23,000.  the doubletap .450 smc is supposed to be around 25,000 but also has more brass than a .45 super which helps a bit more.

There's not a lot of specifics on this, one site said it actually uses pretty much a cut down .308 case.  going to ask them to verify chamber pressure on their loads when i order.

That's how the cartridge started, was called 45-08 Armco  at one point. Brass has to be inside reamed/turned to accept projectile. I wouldn't shoot this stuff in any gun without some proper modifications. It would most likely shoot a standard sprung 45 1911 loose in a few mags.

25,000-26,000psi.  They updated their site to say no compact pistols and need a +p rated spring.

That's 2000 over +p rating so I don't think it is as miraculous as presented.
