Wouldn't be my first choice, to be honest.

Yeah, it'll do it....but range is kinda limited (NM ram....) & it's anemic compared to even a .308 

I'd probably use whatever you're planning on taking for elk. Black bears don't take a huge amount of stopping, but they also don't bleed much as their fur is super absorbent. You really need 2 holes to be sure.

Range is limited, and it moves kinda slow. But it's a big bullet. If you're gonna hunt with it, use the 300 gr Barnes TTSX bullets. They were developed for the .458 SOCOM, and get full expansion with lower velocities than others. They also have a little better ballistic coefficient. At 100 yards and in, it gonna hurt whatever you shoot pretty badly, and you got followup shots.
