Well, got me an early Christmas present. A Puma M92, 16" bbl blued. It is chambered in .44mag, and is a sweet little shooter.

Here's a pic, sorry but it is a lousy pic.

You know, I'm sick of you people and your early presents. Its all "me me me". You should be ashamed of yourselves. :D

(Nice rifle )

JeffSig, don't worry, it will be even merrier when the wife gets her present (XDM 9mm)

As far as a range report: Excellent shooter, nice groups. I've only shot it out to 25yds so far. The rifle had one jam up early on, but I think that was just me moving the lever too slow.

Now, to get the .44mag dies and start reloading for it!

Yeah, I just love it when a .44 mag is next to me at the range........:P

Very nice Gun, Merry Christmas!

Sweet! I've got a levegun in .357 and I love how it supercharges the round with that extra barrel length! I'm really jonesin' for one in .44.

Oh, and you'll LOVE loading for .44! I think you've got more room to play around in .44 than just about any other popular cartridge. Get some H110 and 2400 for your hot loads, and unique ... and maybe bullseye and HP38/W231 for your softer stuff. Either way it's all fun!

Give Jesse a call here http://tennesseevalleybullets.com/ for your cast bullets and loading tips and tricks. He's just east of Jackson, and at nearly all the local gunshows.

Have fun!

Do you need any dies for the .44? I have a set of like new carbide RCBS dies that I have loaded around 150 through that I would sell. I Bought a 550B this spring and have been wanting to get me a setup of the Dillon dies for it. I just bought another .44 and I'm going to start loading it seriously after the new year. As musicman says the H-110 is the way to go. Have also tryed the blue dot but the H-110 smells more like perfume for gun lovers.

I'll let you know about the dies after Christmas, they were on my list, and I've been good :) so I'll have to see what Santa brings.

Amazingly enough the .44mag rifle is a lot quieter than a .44mag revolver so I haven't received too many strange looks at the range.

Longer barrel means more powder gets burned up = not as loud

Great little lever gun I have the same calibur in a Marlin. After you break it in you owe it to yourself to try the new lever action ammo from hornady

.... and no cylinder gap, which really makes a difference

Hah. Duh. I forgot about that.

I will second that about the Hornady. My groupings with my .30-30 Marlin lever (a 60 year-old gun) have never been tighter, and there's no question (if ýou hunt) that the velocity / energy is improved. I dropped a 160lb buck where he stood at 90 yds with merely a double-lunger. Its a great round and has changed the lever-gun world as I know it at least.
