What Lower to Start With

Recommended Posts

Given this weeks events, I believe it's time to do the AR.

I believe I'd prefer to build it (even though I'm clueless).  I have friends who can teach me everything I need to know.

I'd like to go ahead and order a solid quality lower.  This will be a 3 Gun AR eventually, but I want to make sure I get the lower now!

Question?  If we do have gun control measures down the road, since the lower is the only part requiring a back ground check, do you feel that the upper and parts will be available if we do have any issues down the road?

I just ordered the Aero Precision.

I looked at both PSA and Aero and I liked the tension screw.

Direct from Aero for $90 plus $12.95 shipping.

Get an aluminum one.  The plastic ones have had problems with the front takedown pin hole.  As far as forged v cast v machined, who cares?  The lower is not a stressed part on the AR.  Perhaps one of these days I'll see a lower where that would have made a difference.  In 35 years of shooting M16s and AR15s, I have yet to see a lower where one type was better than another except for appearance.

For the price of the Aero lower, you can get two cheap ones.  Shoot one and hide the other if it makes you feel better!  :dirty:

Aero Precision gen2 are nice. Upper came with parts kit installed. Lower had a tension screw to tune fit.

Got mine locally, everything weapons, but they are on sale at

I have to agree about Aero Precision. I have two Aero builds after using Anderson and others. They were good, no doubts and they will function. However Aero's parts run smooth and very well!

The one you can afford.

After that, look at features, markings, roll mark.

I have built based on PSA (x4,) Anderson (x2) and ARFiveSeven (x2.) Other than features, markings and roll marks, the lowers all went together and worked well. Quality parts in the upper and lower are more important IMO.
