2 hrs and 200 Rounds

Per Keyholder agreement, I have to 'work' a 2-hour shift as RSO at the indoor range at Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association tomorrow from 2-4 (anyone wanting to come down, feel free!) The other night I made up a bunch of rounds, so if you had a couple hours and some ammo to waste (at 50-feet, range is fixed), what would you do? Which drills would you practice, what (type of) targets would you practice on?

I would work on the Bill Drill.  Set a reasonable par time for your skill level....meaning don't push until you are all '0' hits.  If bored, lessen the time.  3 seconds and under with '0' down, from the holster is right respectable.

Thanks, I may give that a shot.

The range is kinda funny though, it's setup to be used at 50-feet, all targets must be moved all the way back to the range (not allowed to shoot-short, as you can strike outside the baffles). If nobody else is at the range, you're allowed to setup a stand anywhere on the range, to adjust your distance (e.g. 10-feet, 20-feet, etc.), but the target must be at the back of the range. Obviously if other's are shooting, it's not safe to be standing halfway downrange!

Any drills that are good for pistol at 50-feet?

I'll also have my .22 rifle, so can plink away all day and work on my small-bore accuracy as well.

Thanks again.

K,

I wish I could join you my friend. Alas...not this time.

I have very rarely had anyone show up to shoot while I was sitting the indoor range unless it's was folks I invited out.

I usually just go ahead and sit up at the 5-7 yard distance and shoot a few drills.

Here is a link to pistol-training that Todd Green set up.

My absolute favorite for working sight alignment, trigger control and practice reps is the Dot Torture. ( 3-5-7 yds)

I also shoot the FAST Test (7 yards with a timer) while out there. You can read/print the targets and drills from this link:

Enjoy your day my friend.

Thanks Prag, I kinda figured it would be dead (rarely see more than 1 car there when I go on weekends), but wanted to see if there were any drills appropriate for the longer distance. I'll give that link a look, thanks again!

2-4 should be the hottest part of the day.  Weatherman says it will be 95 in the shade.  Drink plenty of liquids!

I know... thankfully it's an air-conditioned indoor range! :D Worst part will be getting back into my truck at the end - there's no shade to park under!

The AC is pretty nice isn't it? :)

iirc the "firing line" is at 15 yards. So you could extend a Givens Drill to the 15 yd line:

Tom Givens: "B-8 bullseye target at 10 yards, 10 shots in 10 seconds, all in the black."  maybe time yourself at 15 seconds.

Vicker's run the drill from the low ready, Tom from the holster.

Being the deplorable shot I am, I like a 3x5 notecard at 15, but not on the timer. There are some notecards in the metal cabinet near the light and fans controls. Help yourself. I'll put more in there when I'm out there this week.
