Made a new belt

Recommended Posts

I'm with Pete123...nice hand stitching. My knuckles are hurting for ya, just thinking about how many stitches that was! At first I thought you sewed that decorative pattern for looks, but  don't see a top and bottom stitch line. So, I'm guessing you glued the leather together and added stitching through both layers and through the kydex too?

this was stitched with a large sewing machine that can sew saddles so it was not a problem, I will get a photo to post tomorrow of how flexible that belt is, but till then it is very flexible yet offers rigidity at the same time, till tomorrow when I can get some more photos night night.

Very nice.  I also have a question.  Is it possible to get strips of Kydex that are made all in one length and the correct width for making a belt or did you have to cut several strips from a larger piece?

Sorry I just read your post, I had a large sheet of dex and cut the strips from it.  The dex can be bought in 2 lengths that I know of 24 inches and 48 inches and then need to cut what is needed for each belts, hope this helps?

Very nice. I love leather belts.  They feel better than this reinforced Galco I wear.  ......But in the summer I sweat like a burglar in court.  My last leather belt smelled...well, nevermind.

Nice work.  Quality leather goods seem to fade into obscurity more and more as years go by.

I think it is like any other trade or craft that takes a little work, no one wants to do it today, and there aren't any places that teach the craft very well.  That is one of the week points that we in this country have encountered over the last ten to twenty years, our apprenticeship programs are almost gone.  As to the leather, I bought me one of those new fangled nylon web belts bout 3 years ago, and you talk about a pain the arse, you would have to take off the buckle every time I took it off and put on my britches, then the webbing started to fray, so I will be selling it this weekend at a yard sale.  I contemplated make them there new fangled belts, but in reality nothing can beat a good leather belt, just some people might need 2 fer when ya sweat like a pup in heat.  Along with all that if you have one that is built real well and looks good you can carry what ever ya want on it and still wear it with Sunday go ta meeten and look good doing it, and not look like some tactical looking character that is out of place, now this just my own pinion.  :)
