Hiking Jacks River

Who's hiked Jacks River in Cohutta Wilderness Area? I'm just starting to plan it out and don't know anything about it. It looks like it may start in TN then turns quickly into GA. I'll be hiking a few miles of it and camping from what I carry in my backpack.

It appears to have some river crossings, so I'll need to account for that when I pack my gear. Fishing pole will also be required equipment :)

I am also trying to research about my handgun. I'd like to take my G20. I know I can do it in TN. Are there any problems carrying that into this wilderness area of GA?

I'd be interested in any experiences or advice anyone has. I'm looking forward to finally taking advantage of some of the hiking/camping opportunities right here next to me this summer.

Here are a couple links that I've started with:

http://alltrails.com/trail/us/georgia/jacks-river-trail--2

some areas are Day Hiking (no camping) only, so I'll have to do my homework there too.

I hiked it with my buddy and our sons a few years back. We hiked point to point. There were sixteen water crossings if I remember correctly. Fun trip. I'm sorry I don't have more information. I'd have to research on line to revive my memory.

Thanks, Hiker. It sounds like a fun trip. I've been watching some hikers wade through some of the water crossings on youtube. Looks like I definitely will get wet, lol.

Did you camp overnight, or hike it all the same day?
