Powder for 9mm

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased some reloading equipment, it came with HP-38 and Clays. In searching on here, I didn't find anyone useing these for their 9mm, so I thought I'ld ask. How well do these powders work for 9mm loads?

I believe HP38 is the same powder as WW231 which is one of my favorite powders for the 9mm. Of course you need to follow the manuals and use HP38 Data but it should be fine. I never used Clays but I new a guy that shot 115 grain LRN loaded with 3.9 grains in IDPA. He shot a ton of these threw a Glock 19 with a cut rifled barrel. Again, verify data.

Give the bullet weight and type. 115 lead, or 147 FMJ, or what?

Hogdon's website has loading data for Clays. I know that. Whoever makes your other powder probably does the same. It's getting to where you almost don't need a manual any more. Nearly every powder manufacturer has the data on their site.

HP-38 is made by Hodgden as well. I know you can use both in a 9mm as Hodgden's lists it for both powders on there site. I'm just curius about 1st hand experiences with them

I have used HP-38 in 9mm with good results with 124 and 147 grain bullets. Titegroup is my perfered powder for 9mm in the lighter bullet weights.

Well I just traded into about 5 lbs of AA #5 so anybody want to throw out a pet load for that with a cast or copper clad bullet for a Glock (I do have a cut rifled barrel btw)

I use Power Pistol. Really good powder. I have used it with Remington, Hornady, and Zero 115 grain bullets. I also have used Tite Group. But I prefer the Power Pistol powder. gearyr.

I use AA #2. Very clean. Very low load density, so a pound or two goes a looong way. I got a good deal on 16lbs of AA#5 so I will be switchin soon.
