tmj or fmj?

I bought some Blazer tmjs today because they were much cheaper than the fmjs. I figure the tmjs would be fine for target practice. Is there any negatives to using tmjs instead of fmjs either at the range or for self defense?

Personally I would use neither for self defense. I use JHPs. But as far as range use, both are perfectly fine.

Might depend on what caliber it is as to what would be the best choice. HP or FMJ

Full Metal Jacketed bullets still have exposed lead at the base. When one is fired the jacket material engages the rifling and keeps the soft lead contained but small lead particles can still be put into the air by the hot gases pushing on the bullets exposed base. A Total Metal Jacket encases the whole bullet in a jacket and are a better choice for indoor ranges. As to being cheaper, the Blazer ammo is aluminum cased and is usually cheaper to produce than brass cased ammo but can be finicky about feeding.
