Sporterized SMLE

Proud new owner!

Bought as is, except for the cheapo bipod I had in stock.

Really excited about getting a bayonet and extra mag with with it as well.

Whoever coated it did a great job (to my inexperienced eyes)

Need a little advice, has an SK rail which replaces the rear sight, so I need a scope...I'm thinking 100 - 300 yard shooting...keep in mind that I've got $150 in the rifle...would buy used...recommendations?

So you have an SMLE, what model #3 or #4 ?( My guess is it's a # 3  by way of the blade type of bayonet. Great find ! Mil-surp ammo shows up every now & then but there is a lot of good quality hunting ammo available . Congrats !

Yeah, that SMLE is a solid old rifle. If it's a #4 Longbranch, its the last and best run of the SMLE's. What does it say on the side of the receiver?

The coating has filled some of the detail, here's what I could make with my un-aided eyes

Above the S/N is looks like "MK 2"

on the S/N line : 1 / 50 F F (or P F) then 6 digit S/N

I've got an original Enfield No.4 MK 1* Long Branch .303 British that my father left me and like it a lot for the sentimentality and its history. It's incredibly accurate and is what it is a good representation of what military rifles used to be. Yours is strictly a shooter now so take it out and have some fun with it. I think you acquired a fun recreational rifle.
