So I am in the market for a full-size 1911 in .45. Here is the deal. I want one that will take a conversion kit and run smoothly with both slides. I prefer stainless steel, but am open to suggestions and pictures. I'd like the gun to stay below $1k. Is the kimber .22 kit the best? What are my options in conversion kits? Thanks!

Just to clarify, the gun, not the gun plus the kit, needs to stay below 1k. I would prefer if it hovered around $750 for the gun.:ugh:

:ugh: at the smith......;)

I would really love a stainless SA, Smith, Kimber, etc. Anyone have any recommendations of one over the other? Pros and cons? Other stainless recommendations?

I'd go Kimber but that is just me...

I picked up a magazine at Krogers last night that had a write up on the Kimber with .22 conversion. I will look at which one it is and post up tonight.

All amazing! I'm really getting a liking for the Smith and Wessons, but that billboard on the side is HUGE:screwy:

I would stay away from the Smiths. Just my 2 cents.

How come?

Anyone have any experience with the Sigs?

How would you rate these:

Kimber Custom II

Springfield Loaded

Smith

Sig

Dan Wesson Pointman

Thanks!

Here is a pic of my Kimber Custom II with a Tactical Solutions 2211 conversion kit installed. I highly recommend both. This combo is awesome and very accurate. The barrel on the kit is factory threaded too so when my can is approved I will be quiet.

The Kimber will run around $700 plus the NS I added (same as on the TLE) for around $75. This kit is pricey though at around $450.

I had a Kimber kit before this one. It was nice but I find this one a bit more accurate and much more reliable. The Kimber kit runs around $300.
