AAR Rangemaster Instructor Development Course

Hello, my name is chances R and I am an addict......a training addict.  With some 340 hrs of various classes from over 20+ trainers I have tried to become more knowledgeable and a better marksman.  All of my classes have been good to great; something learned and taken away from each of them so that I can hopefully help others especially in carry classes I conduct.  Cruel Hand Luke is right up there at the top of list of trainers I have taken classes from.   Others were 'operators', police instructors, former military, etc.  Good training as I said, but this course is really about what 99.9 % of the 'carry' population need to know from A to Z.

The past 3 days my step-daughter and I took the Rangemaster Instructor Class.  Based out of Memphis and owned by Mr. Tom Givens, this man is the real deal.  His credentials would take extra band-width.  The man is a legend and he has trained with most of the other legends one could name.  If you are an instructor, or simply want some hard-nosed, basic, but challenging training that will make you a better instructor and shooter, I would definitely recommend this course.  Tom gives thorough explanations and reasons for why things are done or not.  He has a wealth of experience and training with an excellent presentation that can help every shooter regardless of level.

800+ rounds in 3 days will keep you busy.  Studying his 200 page manual with consume your time when you are not sleeping at the hotel.  A challenging 90% or better is required in the FBI marksmanship course.  Same is required in Tom's more stringent shooting test as well and the 86 question written test at the end of the course.  There were 30 students in the class with varied backgrounds.  Some from LEO departments or various agencies.  Others owned training schools.  Although not all passed all were exposed to some excellent training.  I am extremely proud of my step-daughter who passed the course ( and as Tom said, was HOA Ladies class.....but then again she was the only female there :) ]  She is a shooter, but not necessarily a 'gun nut' like most of us which was a little disadvantage. And yes, I passed as well so the drive home really wasn't that bad.  As I said, anyone looking for excellent training should take advantage of this class or any other class offered by Rangemaster and Tom Givens.

Thanks to both of you for coming to play in my backyard. ;)

There were 27 students.  Four didn't make it.  I hate to see someone not pass, but the certificate has meaning because of the standards attached to it.

Tom will be teaching his Combative Pistol in Franklin on August 13-14.  Sign up is here.

Chances R, Thanks for the kind words with regards to my classes. I'm glad you two were able to get to Tom's class and I'm not at all surprised that both of you passed. Having seen you both shoot (and hopefully having had a part in helping you be better shooters) I would be shocked if you didn't pass.

I took Tom's instructor class back in 2006 and the Advanced instructor class when it was by invitation the first time it was offered in 2008 . That is one thing about his instructor class.... if you pass, you know you earned it because A. it isn't easy, and B. people can and do fail. I know of instructors from other schools who have shown up thinking they were awesome and ended up failing.... So congrats to you both!
