If you're my equal or my superior in the workplace, and I frequently have to hold your hand and show you how to do your job...I'm going to hate you, that's all there is to it. I'm not talking about training a new employee or helping you the first time you come into a new situation. I'm talking about the "you ought to know better" crowd.

This has been a friendly workplace PSA ;)

One of the main reasons I'm in business for myself is that I don't want some dummy telling me what to do.

My path is likely heading toward that of being the front office guy for my Dad's small machine shop.

It's not really the dummy telling me what to do that I have a problem with, it's me having to show them how big of a dummy they are by showing them their job.

The average intelligence of the human race gets lower by the day. I work for a big box store and have employees here that we are lucky they can tie there own shoes. Not sure they all can.I had a manager over a different department one time, that I had to show 6 times how to do the same task. The 7th Time I told her not to even ask.

Be careful with that mentality. If your workplace is anything like mine you will be labeled "hard to work with" for expecting others to do/know their jobs. I'm not saying you are wrong, I feel the same way, just expect that if you voice your honest opinion when asked you'll not make any friends. I think the self employed realm will be my path as well.

I was in the military for 26 years. Nearly every day was like that.animlol.gif

I have close to 40 and experience it every day. It's the accepted norm that I still find amazing.

It's not just the young that are the idiots of today... It is full grown adult men with gray hair who you would think would have common sense but I find it is a rare commodity any more... Know-it-all Captain want to be working as a deckhand here did not understand that you don't put just one bath rug in a top-load washing machine, same dolt who thought it was ok to park his 60K Jeep in a tow-away zone at the local airport after being told not too, same guy who broke bronze light switches.... The list goes on....

I was labeled hard to work with, but then again I was hired to do a job, not to make friends. It's always been my belief that 10% of the people you work with do 90% of the work, the other 90% are just along for the ride. We had a saying, "either  be a leader or a follower, but get the Hell out of the way".

My hopes are the Hillary/Sanders types will devour them selves without dragging too many others with them over time. Yup the knuckleheads are all over. One example comes to mind.... Once upon a time in a full state Prison mess hall, a blue shirt puts an inmate on the wall for a pat down. The guy didn't like the way the inmate was coming off about it so he stands there giving the walled inmate wegdies in full view of the pop sitting there. That was a whole new standard of stupid! You cant make this stuff up. Just one of many reasons why I finished out my 25 on Perimeter Patrol.

It’s not about you; it’s about the company and getting the job done. If that means you being part of the solution instead of part of the problem; so be it. Those in charge will notice.

The average intelligence of the human race gets lower by the day.

This can also be applied to academia in general (with few exceptions).  I am in a theory and research class now and one of the textbooks praises Karl Marx like he did so much good for the world because he influenced others with his philosophical view of constructivism.  The book never once mentions his first name, i guess they don't want the uneducated students to link this awesome Marx guy with Karl Marx or Marxism.  And how Marxist regimes have killed 100,000,000+ and imprisoned multiples of that.

Instead, he is portrayed in a positive manner that contributed a tremendous amount to the field of research; pro Marxism/socialistic ideologies.... because those have worked out so well for everyone in the past.

Going to use the book to start a bonfire as soon as the class is over.

Hey KKing,  The sign below doesn't exactly fit your situation, though you have my full support in finding the perfect sign along these lines and posting all over at work.
