Anyone interested in OTF knives?

Recommended Posts

We have thought about carrying OTF knives in store.

and have been checking out ravencresttactical.com

We have seen them in person and they are heavy duty.

So my question is, Is there enough interest in OTF knives for us to be a stock dealer for them (AT LESS than MSRP Pricing)

Any other OTF knives you all like as well? We are looking for Sub $200 knives as most in our area do not want to pay $400 + for a microtec knife

Well, I for one, would love it if there were more nice knives in LGSs. It kinda goes together with guns IMO.

However, a large portion of people will buy knives online since you can have them shipped to you directly, no paperwork or background check or anything. Not to mention we at TGO, just had Willis become a knife dealer and gets us amazing deals. That's not even mentioning the various other websites including BladeHQ and others with good deals that a local dealer simply can't match between both lack of volume and having to charge tax.

Believe me when I say, I would love it if you had a large knife selection, but I don't believe it would be very profitable on the business side. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the feedback. Looks like I will be sticking to benchmades LOL

If you wanted to carry folders, I'd suggest Kershaw, Gerber, Zero Tolerance, SOG, Spyderco, etc. A good automatic simply isn't cheap. Edited by nightrunner

Ill buy a cheap knife.  I can beat it up using it, lose it, run it through the laundry, you name it and not worry about it.  I don't need collectables or military paratrooper grade folded steel.   I have the nice stuff, but I don't use or carry any of it.   One of the best I ever had was a 25 dollar buck ... it cut what I put it to, and it was well made, and it was cheap, and it even stayed sharp for a while.     The last knife I bought was $10 at a gunshow.  It does exactly what I wanted it to do.

Im sure I am not alone out there in appreciating a work of art but not wanting to carry it around with me.  That said I am out of your buyer's area anyway, but just like some people buy cheap ammo or guns that cost less than some of the knives you guys are talking about, there are buyers for the cheap knives too.   Its probably like anything else... sell a few top shelf items and make 20 bucks now and then or sell dozens of cheaper ones making 2 bucks each....  probably evens out in the long run.  Most of your gun owners are going to want some hunting knives and a well made knife at a fair price and some high end stuff.   The really, really cheap stuff you can leave to the big box stores... walmart has some real gems in the < 50 dollar range and trying to compete with them is probably hopeless.

I think if you have a couple of decent automatic knives that you stock - OTF or otherwise - you're going to sell them.

At the end of the day, OTFs are kind of a nice novelty.  They're a lot of fun, and great for light tasks.  But, they're not hard use knives.

I don't know that there's a lot of money to be made being a showroom where people can just turn back around and order them online.  But, if you've got a few at a decent price point - you don't have too much invested, and you'll eventually sell them.

Since the law changed I’d be stocking up on auto knives. There are plenty that don’t cost anywhere near $400; and would actually sell. Plus, unlike guns; you can actually get them.
I had a Kershaw Launch 3 Automatic that was pretty nice for $100.
