300 Blackout in 5.56

This is why I use different mags with my 300BO.

....and why I don't own a 300 Blackout.

That's a mighty looooooooooooong bullet!

I only use the sand colored Magpul mags for my 300 blackout. And I never use those for 5.56. Safety safety safety...

It can happen to any of us though. I was reloading a few glock 30 mags after taking it to the range and couldn't get the shells to stay in...I thought dang I must have broke a mag lip...looking closer at it I was trying to load .40s&w into .45acp mags...duh.

That's my plan if I ever get into .300BLK.

Yea, I definitely double check my ammo now that I have a 300Blk and a .277 WLV both of which are just barrel changes from 5.56.  I guess I'll look for some bands to use on them.

The straight wall is because the neck is higher in a 5.56, so after expansion all that is left is straight wall.  Here is a better milling job from another incident which shows the 5.56 chamber better:

Looks like a basis for a new wildcat. I will call it a 30-556. Fire forming cases will probably be a pain.

If you actually managed to evacuate the projectiles, it would be like launching javelins.

Send me your address, I still have some bands left over.

This is an example of why I hang out on TGO! I'm fairly new here but I've seen this type of thing several times. Dolomite Supafly we will meet some day and it will be my pleasure.

Shooters do look out for each other. Thanks!

I like the thought of the new wildcat-although I think it will have a hard time with SAAMI specs :dirty: .For my S&W MP15 I use Magpul 2nd Gen mags and use the 3rd Gen in my .300.There is enough of a visual difference to tell them apart.BUT there's always Murphy

Interesting... I only use Lancer clear mags or D&H metal mags with my 300. Don't have any of either that I've ever used with 5.56. And, I ordered a bunch of the bands from the dude on the 300 blk forum. Once we move I'm adding a second safe that will be for 300 blk and shotguns only...

It never got to the catastrophic stage but once a few years back I was in a real hurry to get to the range to get a little pistol time in. I grabbed my range bag and a bunch of mags. When I got to the range I had a 226 in 9mm, 357 sig/ 40 mags and a can of 45 acp... I opened the ammo box and was like crap... My buddy had plenty of 9mm with him so he offered to loan me some. I knew as soon as I started to load the first mag that there was a problem. After I looked at everything I decided I wasn't mentally enough in the game to be handling loaded weapons so I put everything in the car and spent the next couple of hours telling my buddy how terrible of a shot he was. Still had a good time...

I almost didn't get into the 300 game because of that. I'm glad I did though as it is a blast to shoot...

If that was going to be a hold up for me, then I'd get out of the 5.56 game before I didn't get into the .300 BLK game. That's how good it is! It's so much fun, both supers and subs, and I've got a suppressor sitting in paperwork jail that's going to make it even more fun when she gets to come home!

Color-coded mags for me.

If it's black and plastic, it's .300BLK.  Magpul = supersonic, Troy = subsonic.

OD green PMags = 5.56 75gr OTM

Any other mag = M193 equivalent.
