I'm not sure whether this is of interest or not or for that matter whether it's already been posted but it sure looks like a small all metal .45ACP pistol.

The Semmerling LM4 has/had the same magazine capacity and was lighter but it was also manually activated. Size and caliber are interesting. At this point I'd say I'm more curious about the pistol then interested in it.

An appropriately pared-down 9mm version might be interesting.

 

Does anyone know about the operating principal?  It says the barrel is fixed, but I don't think a straight-blowback .45 ACP that weighs 25oz. is feasible.

 

ETA:  Okay, from what I'm finding it is straight blowback.  :eek:

I know I am a minority but I have many purposes for derringers. I just ask that the derringer be 100% reliable.

I'm going to say you're probably 100% correct on this. MSR is supposedly around $700.

I'm kind of so-so on the entire derringers thing thinking them more of a supplemental weapon then a primary weapon. Then there's the caliber thing with 38 Special being a good balance but then someone does one in .45 ACP. I do wonder at the logic behind a single shot .223 or 7.62x39 rifle cartridge in a single shot derringer.

 

As for the $700.00 price on the PKD45 I have to agree that's not to terrible if its actually a good reliable pistol. I guess if it actually hits the market and is successful I'll be interested in trying one out to see how that low bore axis handles in recoil.

A straight blowback sub compact 45acp... the slide better be made of tungsten, or its sprung like a truck.

Straight blowback guns are only held in battery by the recoil spring. Slide mass keeps the slide velocity within structural limits.

Think about how heavy they have to make a 9mm hipoint so that it operates reliably and safely with a reasonable recoil spring. With the size specs they advertise I don't know how this will work in 45acp.

Maybe it's got some sort of delay mechanism or geometry that aren't talking about yet. It will be interesting to find out.

It says it has a stainless frame and barrel on the website. No mention of slide material. Mentioned on TFB, it's "all stainless steel". Who knows.

A straight blowback .45 is going to need something to deal with slide velocity.

The cw45 was one of the worst recoiling handguns I ever shot. My S&W 360 with magnum cartridges is probably softer in recoil.
