The organizer mentioned this push a little while back. He must've gotten all his buddies lined up to collect the funds for research and development.

I think it will eventually work within the next 10-15 years if people honestly try to develop it.  While it will never be 100% perfect, and I would never recommend it for military or police application, or mandate it for civilian ownership, I do think that technology will be able to keep a failure rate of <0.01%.  At that point, it would be ready to hit the market as a reliable product from an operational standpoint.

 

I'd imagine that some people (parents mostly) would want a smart gun for their home because of the safety value.  We're not embracing this stuff now, because of the dangers in having it seen as a bridge to gun control, but I think it could help get more people owning guns, which is a good thing.

And again, what about all the 350+ million, probably 1/2 billion dumb a$$ guns out there now? Whatca gonna do bout that BoBo?

If you want to count when I first put my thumb on my I phone I have a failure rate of 10 to 20 percent. It usually works in time but who wants a gun that does that? And I don't wear a watch so no way would I ever buy a new gun if this was forced on the public.

It's kinda like building a better mousetrap. It's been tried and some may be better, but an old fashioned Victor is still the best. When something already exists in a mechanical form that's normally used for a life threatening situation, I don't think technology helps any.

Health insurance is mandatory, you don't think retrofitting your reliable firearm won't be?

If you can't afford to add this "smart" technology, you can just turn over your antiquated firearms.

Just my guess of the plan.

All governmental agencies need this to be implemented upon them first. Start with the Secret Service, FBI, Homeland Security and every other Federal agency that has weapons. If its such a good idea then there should be no argument and should be redilly accected by them...........you think??  Bet you 1000.00 right now there will be an exemption for them.......this is strictly for us little people. The old "for thee, not for me" mantra.

This is not a joke. I saw a commercial on TV for a home pregnancy test that would connect w/ a smart phone to give one the results.

Technology for it's own sake is not progress. It makes (some) people more dependent than they already are (which is hard to imagine). Any parent who buys a "smart" gun thinking it will be safer is the same type person to leave the gun unsecured... and then sue the maker when a 12 year old proves smarter than the "parent".

You can sell ice to Eskimos but don't pretend it's progress. Just call it what it is; butchering the sheep. You can get rich doing it, but it ain't a winner for the sheep.
