Is the Glock 17 Gen 4 as reliable as the others ? I know they have changed the Gen 4 recoil springs but are they as good ? Any help is appreciated .

Mine has run like a scalded dog BUT I haven't ran any "weak" ammo either. IMHO I believe all gens up to 4 was very forgiving of weak 9mm but the new recoil spring system on the gen4's need to be shot for a while with a good 9mm NATO round.

The short answer is yes. I absolutley love mine. I've run everything from cheap range ammo to Gold Dots through it without a single issue. They feel wonderful in the hand too.

The only hiccup I had was with some reloads, from Freedom Munitions if I remember correctly. The gun itself, no issues.

I know a chick who can jam up any Glock.......she has talent. But in the hands of us mere mortals all Generation of Glocks are reliable. Even when the Gen 4s were throwing brass in people's face they were reliablity throwing brass in people's faces.

Are their new guide recoil spring assembly very noticeable when shooting ? Or are they even noticeably different at all as compared to the Gen 2 and 3 ?

Now that you mention it, every single piece of brass hit me in the same spot above my right eyebrow.

Mine runs great, no issues at all through a variety of target and defense loads (mainly 115Grn Winchester White Box and Federal 147Grn Hydra-Shoks). I've never owned, nor shot enough out of a G17 Gen 2 or 3 to tell enough of a difference between the three in regard to the recoil spring, but I sure like the OEM grip options with my Gen 4. I'm a lefty, and the Gen 4 can be switched for left hand mag release (with applicable mags) but I haven't switched it as I am so used to right hand mag release at this point and non of my other pistols have the option to switch it. Mine is about 4 years old with a little under 2k round count. I would certainly feel comfortable purchasing another if it came down to it....or getting a Gen4 G19 plus a G34...sometimes I feel like I'm sitting right in the middle :)

All my Gen 4 19's and 17's run great. And they all have been fed Freedom Munitions pretty much exclusively because it's the best deal on ammo.

Some people are like that. My buddies girlfriend borrowed my G26 Gen 4 for her permit test. She said it jammed every other round. She said the instructor shot it as well and it jammed ( I don't believe that part). My buddy said he took it out and shot it after she got back, no cleaning and he buys the cheapest ammo and it didn't jam with him. After I got it back I went out and ran 100 rounds of WWB and 100rounds of American Eagle. Not one malfunction.

Thanks guys for the help. I just got a new Gen 4 17 . For most people they collect the 19's. For me I like the 17's.

I haven't shot it yet . I did notice that these newer Glocks are being shipped with a lot of oil on them . I remember buying Glocks a few years ago new and they would be dry and only have the gold stuff under the slide and that was all. This new Gen 4 has oil all over it and inside it. When I shook the gun I couldn't even hear the striker rattle around like normal. I will detail strip it today and get it dry. It may have oil in the striker channel . It has so much oil on it its like a CZ when you buy one new.

You will love your Glock 17 Gen 4.  I had one when they first came out, but sold it to fund another project.  I missed that gun and recently purchased another Glock 17 Gen 4 from another TGO member. Great gun this one will be a keeper.  Enjoy.

I shot it and cant tell any reduction in recoil compared to other generations but my son felt a difference. I sold an older gun that I had the other day that isn't made anymore and parts cant be found . So I took those funds and got another Gen 3 17 . I am going to use the Gen 4 as a home defense and range gun. Most people have multiple Glock 19's but I am a 17 kinda guy. The only thing I wish that Glock would still do on these newer Gen 3's and Gen 4's would be to still have the circular cut on the lower front end of the grip where you can grab the front of the magazine in different situations.
