What kind of rifle is required for each of these matches?

For the smallbore hunting silhouette category, almost any factory original sporting rimfire will be legal but like always there may be exceptions.  Any question you may have about the game can be found here: http://compete.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/RuleBooks/Sil-r/sil-r-book.pdf

3.2 Smallbore Silhouette Rifle - Identical to the description of the High Power Silhouette Rifle, except that the rifle shall be chambered for

only factory loaded .22 caliber short, long or long rifle rimfire cartridges. Hot loads, such as “Stingers”, are not permitted. See Rule 3.17.

3.2.1 Smallbore Hunting Silhouette Rifle - Identical to the description of the High Power Hunting Silhouette Rifle, except that (a) the rifle may be a single-loading rifle, ( the weight may not exceed
8 1/2 pounds, (c) the rifle shall be chambered for only factory loaded .22 caliber short, long or long rifle rimfire cartridges, and (d) barrel turners or additional weights are not permitted.

in the standard rifle match any 22 lr with a scope will work.  a max weight of 10 pounds two ounces with scope and a safe trigger.   in the hunter rifle match a hunting style 22 lr rifle with scope will work.  a two pound or higher trigger pull is required.  a max weight of 8 1/2 pounds with scope and ammo.  also the rifle must have a hunting style/type rifle stock and taper barrel.  no bull barrels or thumb hole stocks.  most people have a 22 lr rifle that will work in both matches.  most people use their hunter rifle setup in the standard rifle match.  we have autos (ruger 10/22/marlin) and bolt action (anschutz/cz/ruger/remingtion/etc) rifles at the matches.   see - http://rulebooks.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/RuleBooks/Sil-r/sil-r-book.pdf for the full rule book from the nra.

Thanks for the replies. I have a CZ 452 trainer with open sights and a 28" barrel. Would that work for both?

yes and no.  the cz 452 will work great.  many use the cz in both matches.  i use a cz 455 in the hunter rifle match. sometimes i use the cz in both matches.  but the open sights will not.  you can not see the targets.  you need a scope to do any good at this game. a 9 or higher power scope will work.   the ram target  is the size of your hand and it is placed at 100 meters.

There are four basic kinds of silhouettes: Chicken, Pig, Turkey and Ram.  Smallbore Rifle/ Hunter Rifle uses one-fifth size targets , the smallest of the targets.   Chickens are at 40,  pigs are at 60, turkey at 77, and rams at 100 meters for Smallbore Rifle/Hunter rifle Silhouette.  a chicken target will fit inside a jar lid, the pig target is just a little smaller than a ram, the turkey is somewhere in between.  it not the size of the targets, it is the shape that causes the problems.  when you are use to shooting at normal targets punching paper then move over to animal shape targets your gun needs to be sighted in at all four distances.

so bottom line in my long post.  your cz 452 will make a great silhouette rifle than can be used in standard rifle and hunter rifle matches.  but you will need a good scope, 9 power or higher.  you will need to change the elevation for each animal during the match. i use a 35 years old el paso weaver t-16.
