The mentioned law that allows you to have a handgun in your vehicle pursuant to a HCP was written to allow parents to drop off kids. In reading the law I see nothing that would prevent you from leaving the handgun in your vehicle even if you plan on staying at the school.

Not a lawyer blah,blah,blah,,,,

wow...25 posts...LOL....

You can have it in your car..you cannot touch it, handle it, fondle it, kiss it, or feel it.

you MIGHT be able to THINK about it...as long as nobody else knows you are doing that..LOL

but INAL. I just wouldnt sweat it too much...leave it locked in the vehicle outta sight.

Well here is my take on your situation.

You say the school is “Just up the road from usâ€.

I’m not leaving a loaded weapon in a vehicle on school grounds no matter what it’s stored in. And you can’t Clear/Load it on school property.

So what… you are going to drive a short distance, pull over before the school, clear it, and do that again when you leave?

I wouldn’t take it the short distance to school.

Don't that, that is it at all Dave. From what I understand, you can have it, even on your, as long as you don't touch it while dropping off kids. If you are going to an event, sports, parent teacher meeting, drop off forgotten homework, you can have it, secured in your vehicle as is, no need to unload, separate it etc.

But as the disclosures have said, IANAL.
