300 blackout for coyotes

I was riding my four wheeler around the bluff portion of my property yesterday and happened upon a good sized coyote. I got within about 40 yards from him and he didn't seem to be bothered by myself or my four wheeler. I usually take my 300 blk ar pistol with me on my four wheeler so i was wondering if it would be viable to take s coyote at that range or a little further.

Oh yea, well within range; I'd pop one at 100-150 yards easily with 115 grain blacktips.

Thanks. That is what I was hoping to hear. That is the first time I have ever been that close to one. We have a lot of them in the area that you hear at night but I have never been on top if one like that. It seemed strange that it wasn't afraid of me or my four wheeler. I had always heard they were skidish animals.

Be careful of any animal which is acting unnatural, may be rabid.

Did the coyote take off when you stopped the four wheeler? I've heard from a friend that they're not afraid of his tractor... until he stops... then they beat feet.

No. I even got off the four wheeler and it still didn't run off.

At that range I'd take a shot with a .22.

I had several other weapons that would do the trick also but I have been itching to try out this 300 pistol on some game .

This time of year it's not uncommon for a female to stick close to a den. I've had farmers tell me that they were able to drive right up to the dens and the female would not leave. Not rabid just protective.

I agree with Omega... that yote is acting un-natural, as they are very wary of humans. Once they get a whiff of human scent, they usually turn the afterburner on.

I've had them follow me around on the tractor. Often the tractor scares up rabbits and some pretty good sized mice. I figure they know this and are just waiting for a meal. I do often carry a .22 with with me but have not gotten to take a shot. I'm going to start carrying my .22mag PMR and wouldn't hesitate to take a shot with it.

Very unusual for a coyote to be that trusting (un-afraid) of a human.

Unless they are suburban yotes. They will trot down the middle of the street.

I've seen them around my neighborhood for years. One of these days, I am going to pop one.

I won't be slinging any 30 caliber stuff here in the hood. It will be Stingers or .17HMR

My dad had one show up in his front yard the other day. He grabbed the first gun he had handy. His 36" barrel full choke 12ga with turkey loads. Thing never stood a chance.  I doubt a single pellet missed it.

Yeah, it seems the best set up for them is a wooded area adjacent a housing development. That way, they can pick off outdoor pets anytime they're hungry.

And that prevents you from setting snares or foothold traps to get them.

I shot a really big one last Saturday with a 22mag. He came out to see what I was scaring up while bushoging. They really don't seem to be concerned when you're on machinery and will get pretty close.

They got my favorite cat back in May, I've had them just outside my bedroom window at night but haven't been able to get a shot at one yet. I drew a bead on him with my 12 gauge as he ran away but there was a cow just beyond him and didn't want to hit her with buckshot
