Anybody ever tried Cowboy Action shooting events?

Recommended Posts

Yep, back when I had some time.  I shot for a period of time with the Smokey Mountain Shootist Society.  About the time they moved to ORSA in Oak Ridge for their matches was when life got too busy to continue the matches.  I met a lot of great folks and absolutely enjoyed each match.  They welcome folks who just want to come watch to see if you might be interested.  I recommend you go check out a match and meet the folks.  They're good people.

Funny pic! I thought about it as well and priced some guns, haven't been able to bite the bullet on that part yet.

It looks like a blast and some of those outfits they wear are quite an investment too.

I'd leave the bottle at home!

I shot at ORSA once. It rained and ruined my packable felt hat and I had blisters on the bottom of my heels. So I didn't have a real good time outside of making gunsmoke :D. I looked into the clothing and got a shock. I think it's cheaper to setup for 3 gun than it is for Cowboy action shooting! Rifle is a grand and a good set of pistols is about that much. Then you get into the gun leather and that's $500 + for a nice setup. Then again if my trapper size 45 colt held 1 more round and I'd send my shotgun off to get polished and worked over and I'd get a new cartridge belt that matched my duel rig I'd be in business. Hrmmmmm
