Scope Mounts....Tapping into the Knowledge Base

Well, I'm FINALLY getting ready to mount a new scope I got way back at Christmas for my Marlin 44 mag lever action. Crazy huh?......anyways, I'm wondering if anyone here uses loctite on scope bases. I'm not a real big fan of loctite myself, but I'm also not a fan of a scope that loosens up while in the field. The last scope I mounted I didn't use anything and it's been fine, but that was on a 22LR CZ and not a .44 magnum. Any suggestions out there?  Thanks!

I put a drop of blue loctite on my ring screws to assemble them once I got the relief correct. The mounting screws are large enough that I can get enough torque that I don't feel I need it. If you use loctite, just make sure you use the right one. I believe red requires heat to remove, so you don't want that.

I've used blue locktite. If you're worried about removal in the future the easy way is to heat the screw with a pencil soldering iron to break the bond.

I have also used vibra-tite. It us applied to the screw and allowed to dry. It's kind of rubbery and works great. It is expensive though...

Thanks for the comments guys. I have some blue Loctite medium strength that says maintenance on it. I'll use a toothpick and put a little dot on each screw. Maybe that will be enough and will git 'er done.

I wouldn’t put Loctite on any gun part. If it won’t hold when properly torqued; something is wrong. Putting a bunch of junk in properly fitting threads is not good.

I'm getting ready to do this now and thought I'd check the thread again.....I think I'm going to go with proper torque first, go sight it in and shoot a bit. I can always add something later if I need to. Thanks again.

So far so good. I got the scope mounted and sighted in. I've put about 25 total rounds through it and so far everything is holding up good.
