Man I wish kids understood about trust. Once that is gone it is never there again.

While the last year or so has been the best we've had in a long time, I still find myself questioning everything she says and does.

She'll turn 18 in less than a year, so I've been trying to cram in a refresher course on all of life's lessons that we've experienced and discussed over the years. The more we talk about it, the more I feel like a failure as a parent. On one hand, I feel like I've done everything I could to prepare her for the real world. On the other, I look at what I see as her lack of progress, and can't help but question where I went wrong. She is on track to graduate, she's had the same job for about a year, and I don't know that she's pregnant. So there is a bright side. [emoji6]

I used Gps on my daughter in the past for 2 reasons, 1 was her safety, 2 was anytime she wouldn't answer her cell, I could locate her in 10 seconds and have piece of mind and silence her mother.... She never knew it was there in my case.....

I know how you feel TDR.  I have a son who just turned 21.  Trying to teach him life lessons is about as useful as banging your head against a wall.  Don't worry though.  Pretty soon she will have a moment when it all just clicks for her and she will have a lot off personal growth in a short amount of time.  For my son that sis not happen until shortly before he turned 21.  Once it clicked for him, I started seeing the changes of him thinking more like an adult instead of a kid.  What you have been telling her is getting through and you will see it when she hits that point where everything clicks for her.

TDR, I will second what Kahrman said. One of our boys just didn't seem to be getting it. Lots of conflict, immature behavior, poor grades, you name it. Then over a short period of maybe 3 months a complete turnaround. We are still amazed by it. My wife in particular felt like she had been failing him and now couldn't be prouder. He graduated college with an AS and now is living on his own making a good living for himself in FL. Two years ago we wouldn't have believed it.

 

I'm sure your daughter is listening more than she is letting you know. She will have a "light bulb moment" and it will come together. Keep the faith!

We use the standard SPOT & subscription for my dad when he is afield.  We set it to 10 minute reporting, and it is very good.

No way my daughters are driving without it. I'll likely buy the car so I'll install whatever I want and she will deal with it.

I was that guy so I know every trick.

I've explained to my daughters everything they think they know about being sneaky that I know a thousand times more and I will always catch you.

Lie to me and your teen years will be hell.
