the second pic is Billy the Kid. Not so sure about the others.

Awesome thread.

Mike,  I'm assuming you are talking about SubSailer's post.

The full picture is below.  This is the second verified picture of Billy the Kid and was recently valued at about $5mm.  The 4×5-inch tintype shows Billy the Kid and members from his gang, The Regulators, playing croquet in the summer of 1878 after a wedding.

A big part of Billy the Kid's story was being part of The Lincoln County War.  He was part of a group known as The Regulators, which is still used today.

Here's a link with info about it:

More pics from The Lincoln County War, where Billy the Kid was involved.

Below, Jose Chavez y Chavez, A minor outlaw in New Mexico, he joined the Regulators and later became a member of Billy the Kid's gang.

Below is:  John Henry Tunstall, 1853-1878. Employer of Billy the Kid and a number of young men who became known as "The Regulators.

Of course, this couldn't be complete with a pic of Pat Garrett - we've all heard of 'Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid"

I watched a History Channel show not long ago about Billy the Kid, this picture was part of it.  IIRC they debunked it being him. The debunking was based on the tree and lack of leaves as well as the style of the building and where Billy was at during the summer of that year.

Who knows?

Mike, I agree, who knows.  There were recently a bunch of news articles saying it had authenticated.  Though, at the end of the day all they have to work with is the picture.

Stay tuned, plenty more old west to come!  Indians and The OK Corral and Texas Rangers and plenty more!

Of course, if we are going to have outlaws, we need some lawmen as well.  Who better to start the law posts than The Texas Rangers.

Below:  August 5, 1953 Ira Aten the last Texas Ranger and the survivor of a vanished era died. Born in 1862 to a father that was a minister he had a great respect for justice. Aten joined the Rangers at 20 years old.

10 points for xSubSailor - that is the Dalton gang.  One of them, Emmett, survived, having been shot 23 times.

Here's two famous lawmen. Well the first one was a real U.S. deputy marshal, he doesn't get the credit he deserves, he even arrested his own son.

Bass Reeves, arrested around 3000, killed up to 14 in self defense.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_Reeves

Bass Reeves (July 1838 – 12 January 1910), one of the first black Deputy U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi River, arrested over 3,000 felons and shot and killed fourteen outlaws in self-defense.

Festus Hagan: killed about 100, been shot about 50 times. :)

Bass Reeves, shown above, was legendary.  He was born into slavery and didn't let that hold him back.

The real-life Django: The legendary African-American Wild West marshal who arrested 3,000 outlaws and killed 14 men Bass Reeves was born a slave in 1838 and later broke from his owner to live among Native Americans Reeves became a Deputy U.S. Marshal in 1875 at the age of 38 During his 32-year career as a Deputy Marshal he arrested 3,000 felons, killed 14 men and was never shot

There are so many things in this pic pointing to a trip to the burn unit.  Make sure you notice the Budweiser cans used to build this thing.

Chesty Puller, highly decorated Marine.  Remember the SKS should be the State Gun of TN thread?  Remember my comments about the bayonet?  I rest my case!

Well known in badass circles, Lieutenant-Colonel John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming "Jack" Churchill, DSO & Bar, MC & Bar was a British Army officer who fought throughout the Second World War armed with a longbow, bagpipes, and a basket-hilted Scottish broadsword.

This goes to show you that badass can come in small packages.  Look at his height relative to the rifle.  Simo "White Death" Hayha, sniper during The Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union.  Most of you probably already know that he is the greatest sniper of all time.

One for the ladies.  If she were your girl friend, she isn't the type that you want to piss off. She is now an anti-poacher in Africa.

Special Forces in Vietnam.  I tried to think of a way to say these guys aren't badass and just couldn't come up with anything.

If my memory serves me,  he also has the only confirmed longbow kill of WWII
